The Doily Chronicle, August 2-3, 1969 ONE OF THE LAST remaining covered railroad bridges in the state, above, gets almost daily use at Doty. The 43-year-old span, located over a fork of the Cheholis River on the Milwaukee line, is used both by Milwaukee and the Chehalis-Western Railroad, hauling logs for the Weyerhaeuser Company. Covered bridges, numerous in earlier years, are slowly being replaced with steel spans as they deteriorate. Milwaukee officials said the Doty bridge has an interesting history. It was prefabricated in the East, shipped here and reconstructed at a cpst'bf $23,000.

Initial construction started in 1924 with completion in 1926. Engineers said Milwaukee has no present plans to dismantle the Doty bridge, since it is still in good condition. Another covered bridge is located near Boistfort, but it is not being used. Two Highways Receive Washington State Awards Two highways in central Washington received top honors rtfentlv in the third annual Washington Stale Highways Awards competition. Selected as the slate's "best designed new highway" was the 24-mile' section of Interstate 90 between Cle Elum and Ellensburg is Kitlitas County.
