National status for lodge MINERAL Charles H. OcJegaard, executive director of the Washington State Advisory Council on Historical Preservation, announced recently that the Mineral Log Lodge has been placed in the National Register of Historical Places. Built in 25-room, 17- bedroom lodge is currently owned by West Fork Timber Company of Tacoma. Ron Schillinger, chief forester for West Fork's Mineral operation, lives in the house with his wife and their two children. The lodge is an outstanding example of craftsmanship, using mostly readily available natural materials.

The furniture still includes some original pieces made by bending peeted saplings into a graceful settee and chairs. Originally built as a wilderness inn to attract affluent vacationers from Taeoma, the lodge was converted into a drinking and gambling house after the vacation lodge idea (ailed.
