D. Owen, Centra lia Defrost Freezer Quickly DEAR POLLY I would ule to tell Newly Married how she can defrost her refrigerator freezing compartment very quickly. Turn it off, take out whatever food is in the freezer and wrap in lots of newspaper. Put one or two pans of very hot water in the freezer and put a heavy bath towel under the tray. Close freezer door so the steam can loosen the frost.

As soon as this ice loosens, remove in chunks and put in the sink. I use a yardstick to push the ice from the top and whatever does not go into the tray goes on the towel. Shake this out in the sink before it melts, wipe out the freezer and tray and replace the food. The job is finished in no time. -LOUISE B.

DEAR GIRLS too, have used this method for more years than I like to admit and find that a rubber spatula is also good for loosening the sheets of ice but never, never use an ice pick. POLLY Polly's Problem DEAR POLLY My expensive new plastic tablecloth has a felt backing and I wonder if it is machine washable. I hate to ruin it if it is not. 1 find soap and water does not remove some of the soiled spots. What is a good solution to use for cleaning such a cloth? MRS.

A.W.S. DEAR POLLY I always had a hard time keeping track of whether or not all my children brushed their teeth but have now hit on a great way. I always get up first in the morning. When I brush my own teeth I put a dab of toothpaste on each child's brush and then do the same thing at night. Ali I have to do is to check their brushes to see if they have cleaned their teeth.

This saves a lot of useless nagging. -MRS. J.S. DEAR'POLLY I have a special way of distinguishing my husband's good handkerchiefs from his everyday ones which may have tiny holes or stains. When ironing, 1 fo'd and iron the good handkerchiefs into squares and the everyday ones into triangles.

This way my husband can tell them apart on sight. GERTRUDE. DEAR POLLY I use silver cream on the stainless a my stove and refrigerator and on the glass tile in my bathroom. It works like magic and the tile shines like a mirror. ANNIE The Rev.
