That's how long ago Kate Smith 1 i is, and The Onlooker, too. We're overjoyed to see Kate still is in fighting trim, and able in Lli i to sock a song just as she did when the century was getting over Its teens.

On the Ed Sullivan show (Channel 12) last Sunday night, Kate was real solid. Furthermore, she turns out to have learned a trick or two i Before she'd finished her last breath in her last song, she put old Ed on the spot by asking on the air if he wouldn't like to have her come back and sing again. Nobody turns down Kate Smith. When the show was off the air, Sullivan signed her for five more appearances. Furthermore, she gets to keep the 15 per cent ELLf K.

You can hear them on CBS (WNBF) with a sort of watered-down disc jockey show, but it ain't Amos 'n Andy. For mysterious reasons known only to the network and the agencies, the best nightly 15-minute show America ever had was killed off when they eli- minated the Amos 'n' Andy show. The whole country held its breath at 1 p.m. nightly until the organ theme was over and those two genuine humorists began their patter. America never had seen anything like it since the fabulously successful Victor records of Moran and Mack In "The Two Black Crows." A WEST SIDE lady radio fan writes: "Have you caught the fellow on "Weekday" (WIN'R every afternoon), whose sexy, suggestive voice sounds for all the world like he's going to Invite all his listening females to view his etchings and ends up by giving a household hint? Talk about Tender Traps!" "Weekday's" older brother, the weekend "Monitor" of NBC, manages to come up with some delightful tomfoolery that sits fine on this set of ears.

Last Saturday night, the guy said: Folks, if the picture on jour TV screen is slanted what are you doing watching television, anyway? This is Monitor!" WHEN you see Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, or Jack Haley or Martha Raye on your screen being pretty witty, think a kind thought or two of Norm Lear and Ed Simmons, the newest top gag-writing team on television. Right now they're working for Martha Raye. "A woman's physical reactions are limited," they say. "You can't make a woman as I Full Cut Halves Center b- SHANK HALF lb.
