"Surveys conducted among employers of virtually thousands ol handicapped workers," Allen pointed out, "disclosed that the handicapped compare equally well and in many Instances out-perform their able-bodied fellow workers on production, regularity of attendance and job tenure." He said these studies have revealed many other attributes of handicapped workers.

He said observations prove conclusively that the handicapped are just as efficient, just as reliable and just as careful in the performance of their duties. "From its orgin NEPH Week has won increasc-a support from interested groups--both public and private," Allen recalled. In addition to the various state employment offices which are assisting in the program, most government, labor, fraternal, veteran and trade organizations are cooperating to make this year's observance of NEPH Week a success. Allen said that employers of the Lewis county area could make a real contribution by surveying their job openings now to determine the actual physical requirements at each with a view to filling them with handicapped workers. said it would be difficult to find a job which some handicapped person could not perform well.

He explained that each handicapped worker is considered strictly on his individual capacities, which are matched with the requirements oj the job to be performed. "In one way or another," Allen emphasized, "We are all handicapped for certain Job's--even though we may be considered He urged all employers to either call or place their orders in person with the Centralia employment service office, located at 118 West Magnolia street.
