AnarOWS. Kx tract id' Ills memorial address at At i iwn ciiiiion, o.iv isi, Fellow Southrons as we stand in this place sacred to honored memories and suggestive of noble lives, let our hearts be filled with a laudable ambition to live to good purpose, resolutely eschewing indolence and vice. We are citizans of one of the greatest nations of the elohe, the land of Washing ton and Jefferson, of Calhoun and Clay, cf Lee and Hancock, of McKendree and Roger Williams, of President Edwards and Bishop White. There is inspiration in our nation's history. There is a generous impulsion to a nobler life in the very privilege of reckoning ourselves as brothers to the good and great, both of the North and South.

Let us put away despondency and irresolution, and cheerfully, bravely, exultingly, devote ourselves to the performance of the duty at hand, and to each other one, as it comes up in its turn. -Let us devote ourselves especially to the development of the resources of our heaven favored State, Louisiana, the lovely bride of the f.ulf. Replen- jsh her soil, open her rivers, construct her railroads, educate her children, refine her people. So shall we be worthy successors of those who sleep here. They served their country in times of war, we iu times of lice, and if we prove true and like them fall at our post, we shall receive from our succssors, as they do from us this day, "well done good and faithful servants," 4 Nop.

A young woman was seen in company with him, but what relation existed between them is not known. Wednesday moininz she says she noticed him taking a drink of wateroat of a pitcher and she asked him what he was drinking thai water for, that it was too warm. He however insisted on drinking it, after which he laid himself down across a bed in the room.

She laid down beside him and he put his arms around her. After awhile she noticed him relax his embrace, whereupon she arose aud started towards the door, expecting him to call her back, but he seemed not to rotice her withdrawal. She then went to him and found that he was utter-terly unconscious. Attempts were made to arouse him, but all to no avail. He died about 9 o'clock Wednesday morning, as above stated.

Subsequent facts indicated that he had taken sixty grains of. morphine which he had bought at a drug store in that town. It is supposed that the woman was the cause of his troubles. They were both from and the lady is represented as beautiful, accomplished and in good circumstances. The deceased left a letter addressed to his father, near Fulton, about fifteen miles from Tupelo, telling him that he had a policy on his life for four thousand dollars, that heowe a hundred dollars which he wished to be paid out of his insurance'money, and the balance to be distributed among his relatives.
