Louis, Illinois, Indiana or Texas, Mississippi does not figure in the transaction. Mr. Laub said that the matter! could be arranged and the county held tick-free, giving the cattle industry a big impetus. Continuing he said: "Some steps should be taken by the Federal Bureau of Animal Industry, with the co-operation of our proper State and county authorities, whereby the herds in this county and others similarly situated could be increased by the importation of cattle from ticky counties and ticky States. Since the introduction of tick.

eradication prices for our 'free' cattle have become so attractive that herds in this county are depleted. At the same time there is much idle money, the owners of which desire to put it into cattle, were cattle to be had. To attempt to gather a herd of cattle by riding the few tick free counties of this State would be farcical. Scarcity and high price of free cattle would spell failure. "If some scheme were adopted similar to that employed at Montgomery, East St.

Louis and in Tarrant county, Texas, at the Zimmerman Dip Station, numerous Southern cattle could be brought in here for maturing and for crossing with -grade males. A dip here, according to. govlernment plans, located on fifty acres of well-fenced land, at a railroad chute, where cattle could be dipped twice in the seven day period, and at the same time live on pasture about the pen, would do much toward building up the cattle industry in this county, and would have the strong endorsement of stockmen, farmers, butchers and the meat consuming public. The land and dip necessary for such a plant, I know, would be forthcoming from private cattlemen or would be arranged for by the Adams County Live Stock Association. All that is required is that the Federal Department permit their local Inspectors to overlook such dipping.

"'Florida is the place for us to get cheap stock cattle. Our fine pastures are the proper places to mature these cattle. Mr. C. B.

Elam is this week shipping to East S. Louis several hundred of these Florida cattle. These cattle will be dipped en route at Montgomery, and again at East St. Louis, and they will be taken home by Iowa and Illinois farmers as tick free cattle. Modern economic reasoning will not countenance the necessity of shipping cattle from our neighboring States of Alabama, and Florida to: East St.

Holmes, 513 B. street, an attractive and popular young lady of the city, were quietly married by Reverend Father P. C. Hayden at the residence of the bride. Because of the recent death of the bride's father the wedding was a very quiet affair, attended only by members of the immediate families.

Miller, Promoter of Sunday School Baseball League is Encouraging Young Athletes. While the Sunday School Baseball 'League is practically drawing to a close, the younger men who are athletically included, will have an opportunity of demonstrating their ckill and prowess, during the months to come.

Feeling that nothing adds more to the manliness of the youngsters than good clean athletic sports, Mr. Jas. W. Miller, who, in a great measure, has been responsible for the excellent success of the Sunday School Baseball proposes to organize several elevens to play for football laurels upon the gridiron during the fall and winter months. The recent modifications of the rules governing the game tend to eliminate the greatest amount of danger to the players and the idea seems to be to make the game such as to appeal to the clean cut, aggressive ahtletes.

The formation of such elevens will furnish great recreation for the public in general and the progress of the games will be watched with interest. METHODISTS TAKE FIRST BEAT PRESBYTERIANS BY SCORE OF 11 TO 8. Fair Crowd Witnesses First of Sunday School League Championship Games at Concord Park. In the first of a championship series between teams of the Natchez Sunday School League, the Methodist team, which won the majority of games in the regular season, defeated the Presbyterian team at Concord park yesterday afternoon by a score of 11 to 8. A fair sized crowd witnessed the contest and although there were many errors made, the teams put up a good article of baseball.

This afternoon the Methodists will meet the Baptist team in the second of the series. In yesterday's game some heavy slugging was witnessed, both teams hitting the ball hard and far. Of the Methodists L. Kaiser got a three base hit and two base bingles were tallied by L. Kaiser and Wiggins.

Presbytermaking two base hits were: Feltus, 2: Turner, R. Ayres, Kendall, Boswell and N. Ayres. L. Kaiser, who pitched for the victorious team, yielded hits and struck out 12 batsmen while Feltus, for the Presbyterians yielded 13 hits and struck out 3 batsmen.

Score- R. H. E. Methodists -11 13 8 Presbyterians 8 11 11 Batteries: L. Kaiser and H.

Kaiser: Feltus and Turner and Boswell. Umpire: Addison Foster. This gives the Methodists the first of the championship series. During the regular season this team won four out of five of the scheduled games. It is hoped that a record crowd will be out this afternoon to witness the second game.

MORE CATTLE NEEDED S. BEEKMAN LAUB ADVOCATES DOUBLE DIPPING. Works for Texas and Other PlacesWould Restock Adams County Pasture Lands. Thousands of head of cattle from Florida and tick field States could be pastured in Adams county, wintered and double-wintered here, if the Federal department having charge of the tick eradication campaign would consent to their entrance under a said Hon. Sol Beekman Laub, member of the State Legislature, lawyer, secretary of the Adams County Live Stock "Thousands of head of cattle could be matured in this county.

They would be included with the cattle assessment on February first, next, and many of them would go on the roll for the year following, would net the county and State considerable revenue besides improving the live stock interests." In addition to the revenue the county and State would derive from this source, the pasture lands would be utilized, and the Adams county stock men could raise more stock, and make more money, as there is a big difference between the price they receive for cattle they buy in Florida when sold to be matured on other lands and what they would get if the cattle were matured here. If they could bring them into Adams county the cattle could be matured in this county and sold for higher prices when they have added weight on the pastures. This would mean more money for local circulation. The difference between the price of the immature cattle and the matured was explained by a New Orleans butcher who said a calf sold to a breeder for $19.25 was fattened by a feeder and sold for $85.55, though the latter figure may have been exaggerated. The cost of shipping the calf from Florida to Adams county, dipping, with value of pasturage and losses by death, would reduce the profit for the feeded or stockman, but he could make good money out of the venture, and the county, State and Rub-My-Tism will cure you.
