Mississippi, Doris McDonald Modjeski of 5330 North State compete in the fourth annual Mrs. America Pageant which airs on television stations across the country from May 24 to June 18. Viewers should check local television listings for air time of the syndicated program which was taped Friday, April 25 at the Las Vegas Hilton. This year's winner was Carol McKewen of Texas. Mrs.

Modjeski, who spent a week in Las Vegas, returned to Jackson this past weekend. She joined 49 other married state queens competing in interview, evening gown and swimsuit. All of the contestants were very helpful to me and to each other," she added. Mrs. Modjeski said an "unusual experience" for her during pageant week was "learning to dance on-stage." "I was the only contestant without on-stage dance experience. But, I learned to dance thanks to help from other contestants. They would take me over to the side of the stage and go over the dance steps." Several Mississippians attended the pageant and noted that Mrs.

Mississippi made "a good showing." Much of the week was taken up with rehearsals, according to Mrs. Modjeski. She and the other contestants competed in swimsuit and evening gown on Thursday, April 24. Interviews with the pageant's panel of judges were also held on April 24.
