Dudley D. Culley, professor of forestry and wildlife management at Louisiana State University, son of Mrs. Dudley D. Culley and the late Mr. Culley of 1466 St.

Mary is the recipient of the 1982 Gamma Sigma Delta International Award for Distinguished Service to Agriculture. He received the M.Ed. degree from the University of Mississippi and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Mississippi State University.

Following his education in Mississippi, he taught biology and general science in high schools and served as high school counselor. In 1968 he joined the faculty at Louisiana State University as assistant professor of forestry, and became a full professor in 1979. Dr. Culley has taught courses in ichthyology, and taxonomy and ecology of aquatic plants, and presently teaches a graduate course in water pollution biology. He has served as major professor for 21 Masters students and on the advisory committee for 61 students, eight of whom were working toward the Ph.D.

degree. But it is for his extensive research activities that Dr. Culley is widely known in the U.S. and worldwide. Working with the faculties of 13 departments on the LSU campus and research workers across the country and abroad, he has made major contributions in two main fields: the development of laboratory and commercial culture of amphibians, and development of integrated systems for animal waste management and food production.

In recognition of his expertise he has been asked to serve as a consultant in many countries, including Venezuela for the Agricultural Development Bank and World Bank, Czechoslovakia on an NAS grant, the University of Hawaii under the auspices of the Sea Grant Development Office, the Institute of Ecology in Parma, Italy, and with a large fisheries exporting company in Belem, Brazil. He also has presented seminars or been guest speaker in West Germany, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Switzerland.
