MISSISSIPPI lolll I 969-6711 THE UNIVERSITY of Mississippi recently dedicated its athletic dormitory in honor of the late Frank M. "Bruiser'" Kinard and posthumously inducted him into the Ole Miss Sports Hall of Fame. His widow, Mrs. Mildred Kinard, of Northeast Jackson, accepted the sports hall of fame award from Ole Miss Chancellor Gerald Turner. Kinard, who died in September 1985 at age 70, was the state's first collegiate All-American football player and the state's first college graduate named to professional football's hall of fame.

JACKSON was a three-year starter on the basketball team. He played professional football with the Brooklyn team of the old National League and later was a player-coach with the New York football Yankees. During his nine-year professional football career, he was named an All-Star five times. A CHARTER inductee into the National Football Hall of Fame, Kinard also was a charter member of the National Football Foundation, the Orange Bowl Hall of Fame and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. In 1950 he was named Ole Miss' most outstanding football player and most outstanding athlete during the school's first century.

He was an Ole Miss assistant football coach from 1948-70, acted as head coach for part of the 1970 season, served as athletic director from 1971-73 and was assistant dean of student personnel from 1973-78. LIGHTING CENTER KINARD, WHO was named All-Big Eight and All-Southern at Jackson Central High School, entered Ole Miss in 1934 and was the Rebels' first All-Southeastern player in 1936-37 and in 1938 was the first Rebel to play in the Chicago All-Star Game. Voter registration deadline nears Secretary of State Dick Molpus said that the deadline for registration is 30 days before an election; however, the 30th day, Oct. 5, falls on Sunday this year. Molpus recommended that persons check with their local circuit clerk's office because some may be closed Friday, Oct. 3, is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 4 general election.

Registration must be completed by 5 p.m., Oct. 3, at the county circuit clerk's office or at the office of a city clerk commissioned as a deputy registrar. Gable is associated with the Associated Builders and Contractors and Ms Jackson is with the Mississippi chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Other members of MSAE's 1986-87 Board of Directors include Sam Cameron of the Mississippi Hospital Association, Maybelle Beasley of the Mississippi Hotel and Motel Association and Charlie Williams of Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association. The 48 executive members of MSAE represent more than 100,000 Mississippi members in different trade and professional associations and organizations.
