PAGE 25 THE MUNCIE STAR, THURSDAY, MAY 6, 1982 Rumor of Extra Ballots Being Investigated School Board Voters Look for New Faces is that of the two seals on the ballot box, one was not fastened correctly. "It's no big deal," Dunnuck said. "I didn't see the box when it came in," he added. He said the discrepancy in the. number of ballots apparently origniated from a miscount of voters in the poll books and those who voted with absentee ballots.

"They were miscounted," Dunnuck said. "I counted them with a judge and an inspector, and it came out right. I OK'd it." He said the computor count came out right also. Both Hole and Dunnuck want to know where the rumor of the extra ballots originated. "The election board is concerned about who started it (the rumor i and what the intentions were," Hole said.

Hole said he was told by WBST radio broadcaster Jack McQuate that the report came from "inside." Inside, Hole said, relers to someone working for the election board. Hole said McQuate isn't telling where the report came from because of his need to protect his source. The Star was unable to reach McQuate for a comment. Hole said the only investigation under way is to determine who gave WBST the By VICKI HERMANSEN Star SUft Reporter Delaware County Clerk Scott Hole said Wednesday he is trying to determine where the reports of extra ballots in the Precinct 32 ballot box originated. Election board member Donald Dunnuck said there will be "hell to pay" if he finds out who notified radio stations of what was considered an irregularity in that precinct's ballot box.

Radio broadcasts during the tallying of primary results Tuesday reported that nine extra ballots had been found in the ballot box from that precinct. Dunnuck said someone working for the election board called the radio with the information. He said there was no discrepancy in the number of votes cast and the number of ballots in the ballot box. The committeeman for Precinct 32 is Ira F. (Rip) Nelson, also the county's Democratic Party chairman.

The Democratic Party was split in the primary election that found Nelson backing candidates in one camp and Delaware County Prosecutor Michael J. Alexander and Delaware Superior Court 2 Judge Steven Calde-meyer setting up their own Democrat When Alexander heard the radio reports Tuesday, he sent Jack L. Stonebraker an investigator from his office, to Warner Gear, where computers were tallying the results as they were delivered by the county's 77 precincts. Stonebraker is a Muncie policeman, but he was sent as an investigator, not as a policeman. Alexander said he sent Stonebraker to Warner Gear to "observe," and said he was not sent there to investigate.

Alexander said Wednesday the prosecutor's office is not a part of the investigation. "It's up to the election board" to investigate, the prosecutor said. Wednesday, Hole said the "rumor" that had nine extra ballots in the ballot box was untrue. "It's false. That's why we're concerned." Hole said.

Hole said he was told the seal on the ballot box was broken when it was delivered to the computer center, but he said he found that to be untrue. Alexander, however, said he was told by Dunnuck, a member of the election board along with Hole and Lowell Williams, that the seal was not fastened. Dunnuck said he presumes what happened each assume a four-year term in an at-large seat this spring. At Harrison-Washington Township, voters for the first time in eight years had a choice when they went to the polls, and based on Tuesday's outcome, they grabbed at the chance. Veteran incumbents William Ritchie and Donald Sayre sought third terms, but were unseated by James Doughty and Voyne Smith.

At-large incumbent Gordon Carter retained his position. At Salem Community, incumbent Larry (Jake) Walker and James W. Findling emerged victorious to assume at-large seats July 1. Board member Duane Clements chose not to seek a second term. At Liberty-Perry, incumbent James W.

Black retained his seat, but incumbent Joseph D. Perry was defeated by Steven M. Keesling who collected 194 unofficial votes to Perry's 54. David (Mike) Griffey won the four-way race for the at-large seat. School Ballot Delaware County Ballot Scott D.

Wilson (Ri STAR STAFF REPORT There's a new batch of school officials throughout Delaware County thanks to area voters who ousted several incumbents in Tuesday's election. Incumbents were unseated in Monroe Community, Liberty-Perry, Delaware Community and Harrison-Washington Community school corporations. The ballot for Muncie school board had no incumbents, so two newcomers were elected. Marilyn Rector received overwhelming support with 6,399 of the votes cast. Mrs.

Rector will assume her new post July 1. She will fill the at-large seat now held by board member Joan (Jody) Murray, who did not seek reelection. Muncie attorney John Mitchell Feick will take over for board president William Bruns next year. Bruns, who did not seak re-election, will complete his four-year term June 30, 1983. Despite a recent trend of shake-ip and ship-out in Mount Pleasant school district, the incumbent who sought reelection captured enough votes Tues- day to remain for yet another four years.

Hilbert Staton, the only incumbent who sought re-election, was the third-high vote-getter Tuesday. In a field of six candidates, J. Robert Taylor and Elizabeth Coulpn were the other winners. Two board members, Howard Schroeder and Dr. Thomas Brown, chose not to run again.

At Delaware Community, incumbent Richard L. Frazee was ousted when James D. Clevenger captured nearly twice as many votes as he did. Clevenger will begin his first four-year term July 1, the same day unopposed incumbents Georgel G. Campbell and Robert R.

Park begin new terms. At Monroe Community, incumbents Albert L. Craig and Jack E. Cunning-ton, were defeated and three newcomers will take seats on the board. Board member Jack Wright chose not to run again.
