Indeed not. In fact, most of the work we do helps mother and her family. Starting with cotton for diapers and winding up with coal to power the electric generators that light up the television set, we haul everything a growing family needs. This goes for all the families in more than 2,000 communities and nearby areas along the Illinois Central. Perhaps that's why one of this railroad's neighbors recently wrote, "We feel that the Illinois Central is an integral part of our community and contributes immensely-to the welfare of this section." This is as true today as it was a century ago. No other form of transportation hauls everything for everybody. The Illinois Central is truly a common carrier. Each year we invest a lot of money to improve ourf service in the 2,000 communities where we live. In the past 10 years our improvements totaled $260 million. This investment is not only for today. It's also for the future when the wearers of today's baity shoes become the men and women of Mid-America. Wayne A. Johnston President WEDNESDAY.
