A4 PALLADIUM-ITEM, Friday, Jan. 13, 1995 Richard Lee Friend CONNERSVILLE Richard "Rick" Lee Friend, 38, 1202 W. Eighth Lot No. 10, died Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Fayette Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday.

He had been in failing health two years. He was born Dec. 16, 1956 in Connersville to Kenneth G. and Betty Grizzel Friend. He was a lifelong resident of Connersville and graduated from Connersville High School in 1974.

He had worked 15 years at Greene Manfacturing, retiring three years ago due to ill health. Survivors include his mother, Betty Grizzel Friend; two brothers, Kenneth S. and Keith D. Friend, both of Connersville; one niece; one nephew; aunts and uncles. His father, Kenneth G.

Friend, died in 1982. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Gilbert of Garrison Creek Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will be in Lick Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Wanda J. Neeley RIDGEVILLE Wanda J.

Neeley, 69, R.R. 2, died Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She was born July 19, 1925 in Randolph County to Clarence and Mary Morical Simmons. Survivors include two sons, Richard Neeley of Winchester and Eugene Neeley of Union City; two daughters, Joyce Caylor of Ridgeville and Brenda Ashley of Winchester; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jim and Ronald Simmons, both of Winchester, and Delbert "Bud" Simmons of Harrisville; one sister, Carol McCollum of Winchester; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Service will I be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Walker Funeral Home in Winchester, with the Rev. Ann Rose officiating.

Burial will be in Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 13 at the funeral home.

12 at the VA Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born Dec. 2, 1913 in Garrard County, to Hugh and Julia Canter Knight and had lived in this area most of his life. He had worked for and Dille-McGuire Lawnmower companies and Huffy Manufacturing Co. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion.

His wife, Betty H. Corman Knight, died in 1988. Survivors include one son, Chester Watts of Somerset, one daughter, Shelva J. Newman of Richmond; several grandchildren; a sister, Anna Severance of Richmond; nieces and nephews. A brother, James Knight and a sister, Katherine Corman, are deceased.

Darland, 78, 1351 Max Chula Vista, died Jan. 4 at his home. He was born March 25, 1916 in New Madison, to George and Esther Straight Darland. He retired after 20 years in the Navy, then continued to run the fishing boat, "The Miss Norris," for the Navy for several years. He also had his own business, "Pappy's Rod Wrapping." Survivors include his wife, Terry Darland, whom he married Jan 2, 1948; four sons, Melvin Darland of LaRue, Jerry Darland of Covington, Eugene Darland of Woodberry, and James W.

8 at the Lutheran Orphans and Old Folks Home in Toledo, where she had been a resident since 1986. She was a former Richmond resident and a former resident of Woodville, Ohio. She was born July 21, 1904 in Oshkosh, to Fredrick W. and Augusta Kaemming Neusiis. Her husband, the Rev.

Christian M. Hollensen had been the pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Richmond for 18 years. They returned to Woodville in 1979. He died March 11, 1986.

She was a member of the Solomon Lutheran Church in Woodville and had been a Sunday school teacher and was active in making crafts at the church. She was a member of the Women's Sewing Circle and of various gardening clubs. Survivors include two sons, Raymond H. Hollensen of Okemos, and Marvin Hollensen of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Lora Sprang of New York, N.Y., and Olga Rolf of Woodville. She was preceded in death by brother, Fredrick C.

She had been a resident of Meadowbrook Care Center of Cincinnati several years. She was born July 12, 1925 in Richmond and was a graduate of Richmond High School and Western College For Women.

She received her Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. She had been the field director for the Wayne County (Ind.) Girl Scout Council and established the Great Rivers Girl Scout Council in 1964, where she served as the executive director for 25 years from 1959-84. She was a member of the Altrusa Club of Cincinnati, an officer of the Association of Girl Scout Executive Workers, served on Youth Services Committees of the Community Chest and chaired several agency executive fund drives for the United Appeal. Survivors include three nephews, Clarke O' Byrne, John Welsh, and James Welsh. Service was Jan.

Deaths in the news Roger Morigi WASHINGTON (AP) Roger Morigi, a master stone carver whose work adorns Washington National Cathedral and other landmarks in the capital, died Thursday of emphysema.

He was 87. Morigi, a native of Milan, Italy, spent 28 years working at the Episcopal cathedral, carving major works including a figure of Jesus Christ that hangs over the main altar. Other examples of his work are contained in the Supreme Court building, the U.S. Court House, the Justice and Agriculture department headquarters, and various public and private buildings.
