S. Sunday, June 1, 1997, PALLADIUM-ITEM Obituary A5 Obituaries Vital statistics Thomas J. Bowling BROOKVILLE, Ind. Thomas J. Bowling, 83, 749 Main died Friday, May 30, 1997, at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati.

He was born March 17, 1914, in Booneville, to Albert and Callie Spicer Bowling. He retired in 1976 after being a driver for the Greyhound Bus Co. for 42 years. He was a member of the Norwood-Winton Lodge He married Margaret Manley on Dec. 2,1945, in Brookville.

Survivors include his wife, of Brookville; two daughters, Lynn Goose of Loveland, Ohio, and Marlene Mullen of Mount Carmel, Ohio; three sons, Thomas Bowling Jr. of Muncie, Richard Bowling of Brookville and David Bowling of Pigeon Forge, nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cook Funeral Home in Brookville with the Rev. Donald Miller of the Brookville United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Brookville EMS 2. Campbell B.

Jones WINCHESTER, Ind. Campbell B. Jones, 87, formerly a resident of Winchester, now living in LaGrange, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, in Vencor Hospital in LaGrange. He was born Jan. 8, 1910, in Minco, to Albert N.

and Ila May Jump Jones. He was retired from Overmyer Corporation in Winchester and was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church in LaGrange. He was also a former member of Phi Delta Kappa. Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Reyenga of LaGrange; one brother, Marlin Jones of Lexington, four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hitchens Jones, who died in 1991.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in Fountain Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Zion Lutheran Church. Carolyn H. Birt GREENVILLE, Ohio Carolyn H. Birt, 86, of Greenville died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. She was born March 5, 1911, in Greenville, to Andrew and Elizabeth Bachmeyer Huber.

She retired in 1976 as a registered nurse at Wayne Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenville, a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, member and past president of Greenville Grandmother's Club, the Greenville BPW Club, the former Clionian Club and a member of the Women's Republican Club. She was also an honorary life member of the BPW Club. Survivors include two sons, Wesley Birt of Summerville, S.C., and Thomas Birt of Fairborn; two daughters, Kay Seiler and Betty Swartwout, both of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Service will be at 10:30 a.m.

Wednesday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Duane Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Virginia E. Keesling MODOC, Ind. Virginia E. Keesling, 79, 8042 Wayne County Road 700 died Saturday, May 31, 1997, in Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie following a brief illness. She was born April 28, 1918, in Peru, to Garl and Gladys Purdy Coon.

She had lived in the Modoc area since 1957, moving there from Selma. She was a 1940 graduate of Purdue University, a member of Modoc United Methodist Church, Modoc United Methodist Women, Modoc Home Economics Club and recently received a 50-year service award from Indiana Extension Homemakers Association. Prior to retirement, she and her husband, Paul Keesling, owned and operated Modoc Sales Implement. dealership. Her husband died in 1996.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Keesling of West Chester, and Don Keesling of Modoc; two daughters, Ruth Bracken and Diane Keesling, both of Modoc; one sister, Rosemary Hammond of Peru; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Modoc United Methodist Church with Pastors Rusty Clements and Dale Welling officiating. Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery near Selma. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m.

Vance, 62, of Richmond, died Friday, May 30, 1997, at his home after a brief illness. He was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Mount Vernon, to Walter and Elizabeth Stevens Vance. He lived in Richmond for the last 37 years and worked at Huffey Lawn Mower Wayne Works and J.M. Hutton Co.

He married Daisy M. Fulks on July 30, 1955, in Mount Vernon. Survivors include his wife of Richmond; one son, Marvin K. Vance of Richmond; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Keith Vance of Richmond; two sisters, Alene Bullock and Ann Kirby, both of Mount Vernon; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Ramsey and Mary Rose Vance.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Truth Tabernacle Church in Richmond with the Rev. Robert L. Coffey Jr. officiating.

Jones Ulrich. He lived in Hagerstown, before moving to Richmond in 1953. He was retired from Dana Corporation where he worked for 31 years as a sheet metal worker. He was a 1944 graduate of Hagerstown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the European theater during World War II.

He married Marilyn Weiss on May 9, 1953. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and was a member of the Harry Ray American Legion Post 65 and the Dana 25-Year Club. Survivors include his wife of Richmond; two sisters, Phyllis Evans of Cincinnati and Roberta Morton of Honolulu, Hawaii; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his step-father, Clyde Harty.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Hagerstown. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Pat Collins Ralph Boyd HAGERSTOWN, Ind. Ralph Boyd, 86, 600 N. Plum died Friday, May 30, 1997, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie after an extended illness. He was born April 18, 1911, in New Lisbon, to Everett and Fannie Hoover Boyd. He had lived in Hagerstown for the past 60 years.

He attended New Lisbon School and the Earlham College Institute for Executive Growth. He was a retired supervisor at the Dana Perfect Circle plant in Hagerstown, a member of the New Lisbon Christian Church and the Perfect Circle 25-Year Club. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Boyd of Hagerstown; one daughter, Candace Baker of Modoc; one son, Wayne Boyd of Fort Wayne; one stepson, Ross Walter of Muncie; 9 grandchildren; 7 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Thelma Johnson of Fort Wayne; nieces and nephews. (AP) Pat Collins, the "hip hypnotist" who introduced the therapeutic tool to a generation of Hollywood celebrities and television audiences, died at her home Saturday, her daughter said. Collins was 62. She had been in ill health for several years following a stroke, said Maelene Grenat of Lafayette, in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. Collins once hypnotized Lucille Ball on a segment of the "I Love Lucy" comedy series.

She counted Ball, Robert Wagner, Ed Begley, Sr. and other stars among her close friends, and Olympic skater Dorothy Hamill as a student, her daughter said. She also starred in the movie "'Divorce, American and appeared on numerous talk shows. "She's the one who brought (hypnosis) to the front and to the public's mind," said her longtime friend, Carol Reed, "by her honesty and by not letting people think she had power over them. "She explained that it was not a cure-all but a tool, and if you used it properly, the (things you could accomplish) were For years, Collins ran her own night club on the Sunset Strip.

Some nights she would perform her hypnosis act. Other nights she would teach self-hypnosis to people who wanted to overcome emotional problems.
