Hartford City, July was made today of the Superintendents of the various departments for the annual Farmers' and Merchants' Fall Festival, which will be held here September 14 to 18. The superintendents will be T. B.

Waite, William Price, Charles Miles, Harry Love, Linn McGeath, Jesse Johnson, Everett Rynerson, John Fosher, Ashford Rodgers, Mrs. William Wingate, Mrs. H. E. Honey, Miss Millicent Langdon and Walter Rusk.

Preparations for the annual event are rapidly going forward. A number of concessions have already been booked, A marriage license has been issued here to Clara Mahon, 25, of Blackford County, and Dwight Gadbury, 26, Jay County salesman. 4-H Club to Hold Picnic. The annual Four-H Club picnic will be held Thursday at the A. N.

Pursley grove, west of this city. All the clubs in the county will take part. The affair will start at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon and will continue until 8:30 o'clock in the evening. A program of games has been arranged and refreshments will be served. Johnson Brooks, of Marion, employed by the Hoosier Engineering Company, which is setting a series of electric light poles in the county, suffered a severe gash of the upper lip Saturday in a fall while working on state road 22, west of this city.

W. Plans Membership Drive. Veterans of Foreign Wars held a meeting Friday which plans were made regarding the membership campaign and the summer festival being planned by, the organization. At the meeting of the American Legion Monday evening, further plans will be made for the annual stag picnic of the Legion, to be held in the near future. Mrs.

Scholl to Speak. Considerable interest is shown here in the visit, Monday, of Mrs. Inez M. Scholl, executive secretary of the state probation board. She will address the Kiwanis Club at its weekly noonday meeting at the Hotel Hartford.

At 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon she will address a mass meeting of women at Grace M. E. Church and in the evening will speak on subjects pertaining to the care of children. The annual stag party of the Blackford Golf Club will be held at the clubhouse west of the city next Wednesday afternoon. A tourney will be held in the afternoon, with supper at 6 o'clock, followed by open house.

The American Legion at its meeting Monday evening will hear reports of committees regarding the plans for the annual stag picnic, which is to be held soon. Plans will be completed for the annual election of of- ficers. Leave for Epworth Forest. Forty-five members of the Epworth League of Grace M. E.

Church left this afternoon for Epworth Forest at Lake Webster, where they will spend the week. Initiation services will be held by the Tri Kappa sorority at the home of Mrs. Wirth Gadbury at 4:30 o'clock Monday afternoon. This will be followed by a hamburger fry at 6 o'clock at the Pursley grove, after which the regular business meeting will be held at 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Gadbury.

Mrs. Frank Myers is recovering from badly injured hand, which was caught in a clothes wringer. Hagerstown- Victoria Rebekah Lodge No. 46 held initiation services for the new officers Tuesday evening in the I. O.

O. F. Hall, Mrs. Zora Scott, district deputy president, served as installing officer, and was assisted by Mrs. Louie Walker, chaplain, and Mrs.

Hunt has been re-elected by the county board of education, composed of the nine township trustees, to the office of county attendance officer for a period of one year. Hunt is completing his first year in the office. Farmland Bride Mrs. Cleo Kennedy, Farmland, July Cleo Kennedy was Miss Francis Talley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

P.H. Talley, of Farmland, before her marriage June 12 at Glasgow, Ky. She is a graduate the Farmland High School. Mr. Kennedy is a son of Mr.

Epworth League Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church will present a three-act comedy entitled "Calm Yourself," in the high school gymnasium Friday evening. Dorothy McConnaughey was the recent dinner guest of Jean Rae Raymonde. An all-day meeting of the Jeffer-Monroe Township Home Economics Club was held at the home of Mrs. Rena Reed in Marion recently. Miss Thelma Sharp visited recently in Kokomo with relatives. Walter DeMarias has returned after a few days' visit with relatives in Cincinnati.

Mrs. Bruce Oren and daughter visited recently in Peru. Paul Gilbert and Clyde Feazel, both of Hartford City, visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Dearduff.

James Townsend, of Lafayette, visited recently with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Townsend. Union City- Mr. and Mrs.

Clifford Elliott and Robert Taylor and family are spending the week-end in Michigan. Miss Betty Pierson of Grand Rapids, is the guest of Miss Fern McClure. Mr. and Mrs. Evart Williams left Friday on their return trip to Phoenix, stopping at Chicago to visit their son, Don.

Clyde Hammons and family, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Vaughn, are spending the week-end in Indianapolis visiting Ben Eisenmann and family. Mrs. A.

B. Weis and daughter, of Chicago, are visiting George Schies and family. Miss Avery was hostess at a shower given Mr. Mrs. Pete Neff at the Clarence Avery home south of the city, The Misses Clara and Nettie Richter were hostess to a group of friends at Home House in honor of Miss Zella Richter, of Ely, Minn.

Bridge followed the dinner. A miscellaneous shower was given for Mr. and Mrs. Dale Wright by Miss Leona Zech and Miss Pauline Skidmore at the Zech home Thursday evening. Many gifts were found in the tastefully-decorated living room.

When rain spoiled the outdoor picnic for girls of the Up and Coming 4-H Club at Kill Kare Pits west of the city, they were brought to the home of Mrs. F. A. Beaty where they had supper. Mr.

and Mrs. Clyde Wise, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Butt entertained the True Blue Class of the U. B.

Sunday School at the Wise home Thursday evening. Games, contests and refreshments followed the business session. The Young Ladies' Sodality of St. Mary's Church will hold a picnic Tuesday evening at Greenville City Park, leaving here at 5:30. Miss Zella Richter and Miss Martha Castle are spending the week-end in Indianapolis.

R. Wilson are spending the week-end at James Lake. Winchester- Fourteen members and two guests were present at the meeting of the Household Club Thursday night when Mrs. Roger Connor entertained at her home on North Meridian street. The guests were Mrs.

Devon Tipple and Mrs. Edith Hoskinson. Bridge was a diversion and high scores were held by Mrs. Roy Jobes, Mrs. O.

L. Davis, Mrs. Tipple and Mrs. Roy Steele. Following the games the hostess served refreshments.

The next meeting will be held in two weeks with Mrs. Tom Pike. The Coterie Club enjoyed a pleasant afternoon Thursday when Mrs. Frank Mailiff entertained at her home on South Meridian street. The next meeting will be held in two weeks with Mrs.

Vernon Blakely. All members and one guest, Mrs. N. Waltz, were present at the meeting of the Monday Evening Bridge Club when Mrs. Edith Pursley entertained at her home.

The entertaining rooms were attractively decorated with bouquets of summer flowers from the Hunt garden and roses from the country home of Mrs. Pursley's father. Mrs. Merle Browne held high score in bridge. Miss Alice Starbuck will entertain the club at its next meeting.

The Woman's Home Missionary Society of the Methodist Church met at the home of Mrs. H. D. Rickard Tuesday afternoon. The meeting opened with a prayer song by Mrs.

A. R. Abshire, accompanied on the piano and violin by Mrs. Murray Hart and Mrs. S.

H. Possee, respectively. The devotionals were in charge of Mrs. Glen Glancey. Following roll call Mrs.

J. W. Moore read an interesting paper on "A Grain of Wheat," which she had given at the Woman's Club last year. During the business session, plans were made for the annual picnic dinner which will be held in August at the suburban home of Mrs. Dave Curry.

Mr. and Mrs. Willard Howes, Miss Grace Yunker, and Mrs. Fred Lenkensdofer, were guests at the meeting of the A. S.

B. Club when Mr. and Mrs. J. D.

Sarig entertained at their home Tuesday evening. Bridge was played and high score for women was held by Mrs. Chester Hobbick and high score for men by J. R. Clark.

The next meeting will be held July 28 with Mr. and Mrs. William VanWylich. Mrs. Blanche McCall entertained the Alumni Chapter of the Delta Tau Tuesday night at the home of her mother, Mrs.

D. M. Jeffery. Eight members were present and Mrs. Clyde Beasley was a guest.

Mrs. Beasley held high score in bridge. Mrs. Roger Phistner will be the hostess to the club at its next meeting. Mrs.

John Bishop, entertained the Monday Luncheon Club Wednesday at her home. Mrs. Ellis Bell was a guest. The place of the next meeting will be announced later. Mrs.

Luther Wells and Mrs. Will Wells were guests at the meeting of the East Side Bridge Club held Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. Robert Shandy. Following luncheon bridge was played with high score for the members being held by Mrs. Clate Addington and high score for the guests being held by Mrs.

Luther Wells. The next meeting wil be held in two weeks with Mrs. Chauncey Watters. Mrs. Dave Moorman and son, Roger Green, entertained Mr.

and Mrs. Clarence Haworth and Mrs. Jode Mills of Farmland, at a fish dinner Tuesday. Mr. Green had just returned from a fishing trip in Canada with a large catch.

In honor of the birthday anniversary of her husband, Stewart Robbins, Mrs. Robbins entertained relatives and friends at a co-operative dinner recently. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Robbins and family, Mr.

and Mrs. Booker Worley, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Stegall, Mr. and Mrs.

Elmer Edwards and Will Robbins of Lynn, Mrs. Olive Erwards of Winchester, and Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Robbins and family. Mrs.

Warren Hogue, of Akron, was a substitute at the meeting of the Wednesday Night Contract Club when Miss Charlotte Tillson entertained at her home. This was the last meeting of the round and the next meeting will be a winners' and losers' party. The time and place will be announced later. Alexandria- All members of the Help Your Neighbor Club who are on the program for the joint picnic with the Friendly Circle and Hall Corner Helpers clubs are to meet at the home of Mrs. Milford Craig at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, July 22.

Mrs. Russell Ihne was hostess Friday evening at a shower honoring Mrs. Dale Braun. Card honors were won by Mrs. Howard Jones and Mrs.

Ray Helm. Attending were Mesdames Charles Schroth, Ray Helm, Martin Burden, F. O. Medsker, Morris Hankins, Don Skeoch, David Burnett, Stewart Goodwin Claude Musselman, Rudolph Wells and Howard Jones of Muncie. Rudolph Bowers entertained several guests at the Colonnade Friday evening, honoring the birthday anniversary of his wife, Edith.

Euchre was played and prizes awarded. Refreshments were served Messrs. and Mesdames Merlin Fuller, Warren Beatson, Rex Fuller, Neal King, John Lewis, and Tom Evans and Roy Clause of Anderson. Miss Patricia Rothinghouse and Miss Sue Braun attended a dinner at the Columbia Club in Indianapolis Saturday, given for all students of Stephens College. Mr.

and Mrs. Harold M. Porter had as their dinner guest Friday evening, Miss Kathryn Beigh of Anderson. Dr. and Mrs.

T. L. Steenerson and son, of Wilkinson, and Dr. and Mrs. Leif Steenerson of Alexandria left Saturday evening for a two weeks' vacation in Minnesota.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Skeoch and Mr. and Mrs. Dee Jones left Saturday morning for a two weeks' trip to Canada and the eastern states.

Farmland- Robert Felters of Paris, spent the week-end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Felters, Mrs. Felters, who has been ill, is improved. Mrs.

Clate Mills recently entertained the members of the W. R. C. of Winchester at her home in Maxville at an all day meeting. guests were present from Farmland and Parker.

A silk flag was presented to the hostess. O. W. Emerson and wife, who have been the guests of her grandparents, James Wilson and wife, have returned to their home in Long Island, N. Y.

Miss Liona Reynard entertained the members of Afternoon Bridge Club at her home here Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rouch, who visited her sister, Mrs. Clarence Williams, and family here, have returned to their home in Peoria, Ill.

Charles Mendenhall and family have returned to their home in Barger, Texas, after a week's visit here. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Whitesell and George Punkhouser and family are spending their vacation at Barbee Lake. Mrs.

Margaret Earling will be hostess to the Jollyette Club Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson are spending their vacation at their rural home near Jerome. Mr.

and Mrs. Frank Johnson and son are spending the week in Michigan at the lakes. Grant Moore and family and Barbara Earling are spending their vacation at Carp Lake, Mich. Mr. and Mrs.

G. L. Wyrick entertained Wednesday evening in honor of their son, Max Wyrick, of Kingsport, Tenn. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs.

George Louderback, of Logansport; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mauer, Rita, Margaret and Martin Mauer, Roger Landon, Catherine Mauer, and Albert Cheeseman, Jr. Mr. and Mrs.

Raymond Bishop and children, Dorothy McDonald and Benjamin Foster are spending their vacation at Centerville. The Union Chapel Church will hold an ice cream and cake social Tuesday evening on the church lawn. An amateur program will be presented. In case of inclement weather, the social will be held in the church. Ralph Gaunt and family returned to their home Friday from Peoria, where Mr.

Gaunt finished a course of study. Mrs. Rachel Diebal was hostess to the American Legion Auxiliary Wednesday evening. Plans were completed for the sale of a trailer house car, the proceeds to be used for the furnishing of the home for the auxiliary in the new Legion home, which is nearing completion. The president, Mrs.

Ed Everhart, named her committees. Mrs. Deibal presented a contribution to the building fund. Later five hundred was enjoyed and prizes awarded to Mrs. Edna Stevenson and Mrs.

Hazel McDaniel. The H. H. Five Hundred Club was entertained by Mrs. E.

W. Crothers, of East Center street. Card prizes went to Mrs. Harold Lefevre, Mrs. Ervin Hinkle and Mrs.

James Adamson. The annual picnic of the MaryMartha Class of the Baptist Church was held at the Albany Park. The occasion was also a handkerchief shower in honor of Mrs. J. Edward Lehman, wife of the pastor, who leaves soon for their new home in Inman, S.

C. A picnic supper was served to Miss Ella Cunningham, Mrs. Eileen Gothrup, guests, and Mesdames Velma Hiles, Nora Siler, Clara Hiles, Mazie Inman, Georgetta Hiles, Zella Baker, Mayme Starr, Hazel Baker, Clara Parker, Mabel Wolfe, Mary Stump, Marceil Montgomery, Geraldine Lanning, Orpha Lehman, Laura Wright and Mary Coffman. The Green Street Threshing Company held a meeting at the home of the president, George Ritter. At this time, the members drew their jobs for the season, which will start when the oats are cut.

A threshing outfit from Ridgeville will be hired. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Batsch and family are spending a three-weeks' vacation in Wisconsin. The Faithful Class of the Baptist Church held its monthly social and business meeting with Mrs.

Victor Gaa on South Main street. Lunch was served and games enjoyed by thirteen members. Henry Barr and family returned home Thursday from a fishing trip at the lakes in northern Indiana. Robert Wallace and Joseph Dudley returned Thursday from a fishing trip in northern Michigan. Mooreland- Mr.

and Mrs. George Beeson and daughter and Mrs. Betty Cooper spent Thursday at Indianapolis. Harry Bushman of Indianapolis, spent Sunday here with his father, R. L.

Bushman and daughter. Mrs. W. E. Ticen and Miss Bessie Jackson spent Wednesday evening in Connersville.

Basil Hiatt and family were Sunday guests at Troy, O. Stage Coach 'Stop' to Be Razed A landmark on the National road two miles west of Knightstown at Three-MileCreek is doomed to be razed. For many years in the days of the stage coaches plying between Indianapolis and Dayton, and Cincinnati, it was a tavern operated by Gordon Ballard and offered hospitality to travelers. It will be torn down to make way for a building on the farm owned by Miss Hazel Crouse of Knightstown. Losantville- Mr.

and Mrs. Boyden Murray, Mrs. Oma Neff, Mrs. Ed Wolford and Mrs. J.

F. Segraves and sons attended camp meeting at Webster Sunday. The Rev. Warren Wall and William Rockhill were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs.
