May 25.1977 GREELEY (Colo.) TRIBUNE 5 Beau Brummei, well-blown for his exquisite drejs and manners,-died in the pauper*' He!p with costs for winterizing homes in Weld County Is available through the Department of Human Resources for families who meet certain federal Income guidelines. , According to Don Ratiiff of the department, the winterization program, a year- around activity, helps low- income families reduce home heating costs, energy consumption, and discomfort.. He said the program includes free repair plus "consumer education" regarding wasteful energy loss. Structures must be basically sound and owner- occupied to be considered. Federal income guidelines decide eligibility. Ratiiff said the program works like this: A winterization representative first inspects 'the' home for corrective measures and a cost estimate is prepared. TWs report is later analyzed by a winterization committee, which decides funding, if the proposal is accepted. Areas inspected include foundations, exterior walls, windows, doors, and attics -places where cold air can penetrate. Heating units and the program, Ratiiff said in- lunatic asylum chimneys'also are examined, terested persons should call 351- France, in 1840. Repairs may include pat- 6IO °- ching foundations and cracks in exterior walls, replacing, repairing, and glazing windows and doors, and the installation of plastic window covers. If needed attics are insulated to meet local public utilities standards. For additional information on in Caen, Estimated 17,146 Weld residents have high blood pressure An estimated 3,434 Weld County residents have uncontrolled high blood pressure, a disease that can kill and disable, according to projections made for the county from a national survey that measured the blood pressures of more than a million persons. Tne projections, similar to those made by television networks to forecast election winners, estimate that the county has 17,146 residents or 15.9 per cent of the population with high blood pressure. Only about 3,530 people in the county have their blood pressure under control. The county projections were made by putting county Census Bureau data with the national Community Hypertension Evaluation Clinic (CHEC) program statistics on age, sex and race of those with high blood pressure to estimate the county population afflicted with the disease. According to Dr. Marvin Moser, senior medical consultant to the National High Blood Pressure Education Program, "High blood pressure can't be cured, but it can be controlled so that deaths and disabilities related to the disease are reduced. If left untreated, high blood pressure can cause strokes, heart attacks and kidney damage. It is often called the silent killer because high blood pressure usually has no symptoms to warn the person that he is ill." CIBA Pharmaceutical Co. cosponsored the national survey in cooperation with local professional and civic groups and has now projected that information for every county in the country, making the projections the best estimates of the prevalence of high blood pressure on a county basis ever made available.
