James E. Monroe, Sunday at his home, Memorial. A native of Ohio, he worked in the receiving XH'H IH WW department at Westinghouse. He was a Korean War veteran. He was a Ethel Swartout, Emily Grayson and Carol J.

Monroe, all of Muncie; four brothers, Walter, Earl and John, all of Muncie, and William, Kokomo; a sister-in-law, Maxine Monroe, La Fontaine, and a brother-in-law, Norman Raiser, Muncie; nine grandchildren. Reichard, all of Muncie; and several aunts and uncles. Private services were this morning in Gardens of Memory. Ex-Dow chairman dies BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) William F. Kerby, a former chairman of Dow Jones Co.

whose career in the newspaper business spanned nearly half a century, died of cancer Sunday at his home here. He was 81. Kerby held every major position on the news staff of The Wall Street Journal prior to becoming an executive officer at the Journal's publisher, Dow Jones according to a statement from Dow Jones. Kerby joined the Journal's Washington, D.C., staff in 1933. He was managing editor and then executive editor from 1942 to 1951.

He was elected executive vice president of Dow Jones in 1961, president in 1966, and chairman of the board in 1972. He retired in 1978 but served as a director until 1980.
