California- National Summaries National--Heat records were broken yesterday from Texas to the Ohio Valley and into the East. Temperatures generally were 85 to 95, but last night's low in Fort Worth was 77 and Galveston 80.

It is turning cooler, however, in western Texas and the cool air mass also has moved into Missouri, the Ohio Valley and into the East. A few showers of thunderstorms have occurred along the advancing edge of this cool air mass which continues to flow down from Canada. The coolest weather, with temperatures last night in their thirties, stretched from northern Nevada and eastern Oregon to Minnesota: however, in northern Nevada most night readings were in the twenties. Aside from some rain and snow. in the northern Rockies yesterday the weather remains fair over: the western part of the country.

Cheyenne bald three inches of snow this morning. Some rainfall exceeded one inch from the east slope of the Rockies to Kansas City. There has been rain also in western Washington. California Clear skies covered the entire state this morning and no fog was reported anywhere, along the Coast. Temperatures rose mainly in the central coastal area to 5 to 10 degrees above the yearly October average, but no unusual readings were recorded.

Yesterday afternoon, high readings ranged from 78 for San Francisco to 82 for Sacramento, 83 for Fresno, 85 for Los Angeles. A large high pressure system over the plateau states extends across California and is expected to continue to dominate the weather in Norhern California over the Skies will be fair and the temperatures above normal everywhere except along the extreme north coast.
