He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He worked at Sears and had retired from American Can Company. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 11 at St.

MHS to sponsor program on hospital accreditation The Mississippi Hospital Association is sponsoring a Program on Hospital Accreditation Standards, Sept. 20-21, at the Coliseum Ramada Inn in Jackson. The seminar is conducted by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, based in Chicago. The Program on Hospital Accreditation Standards (PHAS) addresses issues that will be of importance to those individuals using the 1985 Accreditation Manual for Hospital (AMS) for hospital survey or as an ongoing self-assessment tool for their facility.

The program is intended for hospital administrators, trustees, chiefs of medical staffs, medical directors, nursing administrators and medical record administrators. i The one and a half day program 'will provide health care professionals with information in many areas. These include an update on 1984 standards and survey process changes, new psychiatric standards for hospitals and revised quality and appropriateness review requirements for clinical and support services. Medical staff monitoring activities and departmental review, along with nursing services, will also be discussed. The Joint Commission on Ac-crediation of Hospitals is a nonprofit organization whose primary purpose is to promote high quality in the provision of health care and related human services.

Carolyn Robinson was transferred from Magee Attendance Center to position of teacher aide at Mendenhall. Kindergarten students are to report on Aug. 27 at 8 a.m. Magee High School principal Victor Blair said the student handbook in grades 1-6 and 7-12 has been approved. "We will have an established dress code for grades 1-4," said Dr. Blair.

"These students will be able to wear walking shorts. Grades 5 and up will not be able to wear shorts," he said. Dr. Blair said that a file on addresses will be kept on all new students to determine if there is any zone jumping. "The principals are responsible for this," he said.

Students transferring from a nonaccredited school must be screened, Dr. Blair said. "We're looking forward to a better year," Dr. Blair said. "We're adding to the' curriculum and a lot of work has been done on the building, maintenance-wise.

"We're trying to implement the new Education Reform Act of 1982 through these changes," he said. "We invite all parents down any time." All public school attendance centers will have ten new computers this year. At Magee High School a computer literacy course will be taught. Also, Dr. Blair said Magee has 17 new IBM selectric typewriters for the advanced typing class.

Other changes of note, the grading system this year has been upped. Seventy-five is now the passing grade. Also all county schools have planned their schedules so that vocational-technical students from their schools can attend all planned programs. All county public schools will dismiss on the following days at 1 p.m. for inservice and staff development from (All teachers must be present) Oct.

1, Nov. 5, Dec. 3, Jan. 7, Feb. 4, March 4, April 1, and May 6.
