Parker 746-2946 taw i The Mississippi Committee for the Humanities (MCH) will fund three summer institutes for teachers this year. Millsaps College, Mississippi State University, and Jackson State University will host the institutes, beginning in June. Each institute will offer 15-25 teachers in the state the opportunity to study English, history, or French with some of the best, scholars in the subjects. Charles Sewell, chairman of the MCH said, "These insltutes represent a major new direction for the MCH. We seek to foster excellence in the teaching of the humanities as well as public appreciate of thier value.

Good language skills and a sense of history are the keynotes of a strong society." The subjects of the 1964 institutes are Mississippi Culture, French Language and Culture, and African Culture. Dr. Cora Norman, executive director, said, institues will provide an opportunity for teachers to do further study in the subjects which they teach. The MCH grants provide $200 a week stipend for each teacher. But the greatest incentive is the quality of the program." Millsaps College will host the Mississippi Culture Institute, June 10-July 13.

Twenty teachers of English, history of social studies will be selected to attend. The five-week course uses as a model the 1983 highly successful institure at 1 Jackson State University. Teachers will study Mississippi geography, history, political science, literature, and arts with a visitng professor for each topic.
