TALLAHASSEE Damon Underwood Damon Underwood, 89, of Dothan, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at Clarebridge Memory Care Residence in Tallahassee after several years of battling Alzheimer's disease.

Services will be at 10 a.m. CDT Saturday at the chapel of Byrd Funeral Home, 3 3409 W. Main St. in Dothan (334-793-3003). The Rev.

Travis Free of Rehobeth Baptist Church in Rehobeth, will officiate. Entombment will be at Memory Hill Cemetery on the Hartford Highway. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. CDT today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rose Hill Senior Adult Center, 401 S.

Appletree Dothan, AL 36301, or to a favorite hospice or Alzheimer's association. Damon was born May 4, 1916, near Underwood's Mill in Houston County, to William Thomas and Ethyl Cain Underwood, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Rehobeth High School in 1937 and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the American and European theaters during World War II. He attained the rank of Tec 4.

On Nov. 19, 1945, he was united in marriage to Josephine Joann Stockus in Brockton, Mass. In 1951, Damon and Jo moved from Rehobeth to Dothan. Over the years, Damon worked at Coca-Cola, Orkin and Pest-X. He retired from the Alabama Highway Department in 1981 after 20 years of service.

In retirement, Damon enjoyed gardening, repairing lawn mowers and helping his neighbors. In later years, he was active with Rose Hill Senior Center, Rehobeth Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church. Damon is survived by his son, Dr. D.J. Underwood (and wife Gayle) of Tallahassee; a grandson, David Underwood (and wife Amanda) of Walnut Grove, two grandchildren, Dakota Denson and Mackenzie Underwood of Walnut Grove; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Clarebridge Memory Care Residence in Tallahassee and the Big Bend Hospice for their help and support. Horace Carlton Lee Horace Carlton Lee, 59, of Nashville, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005. The service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday at Salem AME Church in Greensboro, with burial at Greensboro Community Cemetery.

Jack was born Hubert Eugene Foster on April 5, 1912, the 11th child of George Aaron Foster and Nora Ophelia Snyder. Jack was the last surviving sibling.

They were, in order of birth, Gladys Irene, Dulcie Lucile, Regina, William Otis, Cecil Snyder, Louis Harold, Clarice Louise, George Adair, Charles Milner, James Walton and Robert Tisdale. Four of Jack's siblings died before reaching adulthood: Cecil was struck by lightning in 1914; Louis died in the influenza pandemic of 1918; Clarice died from measles and pneumonia in 1907; and Robert died from cholera in 1916. 8141459 Residential Burglary Roberts Road, 7100 block: comic books, cash. Jack's parents were married in Andalusia, in 1890, and both descended from the earliest pioneer settlers to South Alabama. Nora's people came down Three Notch Trail in the 1820s to settle in Little Oak, Ala. Jack's great-greatgrandfather, Matthias Snyder, had received a land grant in the Alabama Territory for service in the War of 1812. Jack was a direct descendant of one of three Revolutionary War veterans buried in Florida. Aaron Snowden, Jack's paternal great-greatgrandfather, received a land grant near Milton for service in the war in South Carolina.

As a teen, Jack worked in the lumber business with his father as an off-loader at a sawmill. He graduated from Walton County High School in 1930 and was captain of the football team. Jack worked as a gasstation and wholesale manager. In wholesale trade, he worked for Bogan Supply Company for more than 40 years. His other jobs included wholesale sales, railroadclerk during World War II and warehouse worker in a brewery in Pensacola.

Jack was well-known to hundreds of people along Florida's Panhandle and in South Alabama, his plumbing-supply sales route in the 1940s. The pinnacle of Jack's professional life was his service to Okaloosa County as a school board member from 1964 to 1976. His judgment and dedication to the students, teachers and people of Okaloosa County helped guide the school system through some very difficult years. What emerged was the best school district in Florida, a legacy that lives on today. Jack Foster Stadium in Crestview was named i in his honor.

He is survived by three sons and a daughter, Donald Allen Crosby (and wife Pam) of Tallahassee, Bob Crosby (and wife Jane) of Shalimar, Susan Foster Davis (and husband John) of Marianna and George Phillip Foster (and wife Sue) of Tallahassee; seven grandchildren, Colleen Davis, Kathy Carnahan, William Crosby, Rob Crosby, Jackie Crosby, Heather Pylant Williams and Walton Foster; and eight greatgrandchildren. In addition to his parents and siblings, Jack was preceded in death in 2003 by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou. 8141459 Roy E. Pierson Roy E. He was member of East Hill Baptist Church. He retired from Florida State University, where he was an associate professor in the special-education department. He was the co-author of the first textbook in the field of orientation and mobility, which continues to be used by the majority of university orientation programs.

Mr. Ponder enjoyed writing short stories, many of which were based on his hometown of Glenwood and published in Glenwood's paper, The Wheeler County Eagle. He was a lover of the outdoors and an avid gardener, selling his produce along the roadside in the community of Chaires. Other survivors include three sons, Perry L. Ponder (and wife Virginia), Scott Ponder (and wife Leigh) and Robert M.

Ponder, all of Tallahassee; his mother, Nonene Newkirk of Vidalia, a brother, Butch Newkirk of Brunswick, an adopted brother, James Newkirk of Wedowee, and three grandchildren, Marisa, Peyton and Nicolas. lahassee, Mrs. Williams had lived for the past two years at Westminster Oaks, enjoying the daily activities and friendships developed there. For 28 years, she owned Catherine's Beauty Shop on Thomasville Road, where she touched the lives of many Tallahasseeans. Because of the untimely ill health of her husband early in their married lives, she assumed the role as head of household. By determination, sacrifice and hard work, she raised three young children while caring for her invalid husband.

Through adversity, she always exhibited a cheerful spirit and Christian attitude toward those with whom she had contact. Catherine was a member of Trinity Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She was a true daughter of the Confederacy as her father fought for the 54th Georgia Infantry in the Civil War. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Williams (and wife Janice) of Wakulla County and Johnny Williams (and wife Rita) of Tallahassee; a daughter, Ann Duket (and husband Joe) of Atlanta; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
