PAGE (OX Senator Lodge States Loyalty Files Valueless Washington, June Lodge said today that state department loyalty files on 81 persons accused by Senator McCarthy are too 1 'to settle the Issue. By saying so, Lodge contradicted Senator Tydings chairman ot senate committee. Investigating charges that the department IB a Red haven. Tydings contends the committee's study of the files will show a complete "true or false" picture. Lodge Is a member of the five-man Investigating group.

In another phase of the long Investigation of McCarthy's attack on the state department and Its officials, the committee tried today to pry loose from the justice department a record concerning John S. Service, Far East diplomat accused by McCarthy as pro-communist. It purports to be the transcript ot a 1945 conversation between Service and Philip Jaffe, Amerasia magazine editor. Investigators said they had received testimony that Service transmitted military crets to Jaffe. Service testified thai he never knowingly did so; that lie had no such secrets to impart.

Driscoll Urges GOP To Show Voters Its Back in Business jf- Atlantic City, N. June Alfred E.
