Jones Turns 152.027 Lap, Tops Record LNDLANAPOLIS (AP)-Parnelli Jones, who already owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway qualifying record, drove a lap Saturday at 152.027 miles an hour, the fastest time ever recorded at the track.

Jones piloted the same Agajan-lan Special in which he took the pole for the 500-mile race last Memorial Day with a speed of 150.729. He was the first man to pass 150 here. The 30-year-old Torrance, driver, who was USAC sprint car champion last year, drove two laps above 150 before the electrical timing device registered his unofficial record. Jones added fuel to a Speedway feud by turning in the record lap on 15-inch tires. Veteran Speedway drivers and car owners have protested the use of the smaller tires by foreign entries.

The crew-cut Jones said he had proved his point "that you can run quicker, like the Lotus-Fords have done, on 15-inch tires." Most conventional Speedway roadsters use tires 16 inches in diameter, with a narrower tread. Jones led the 1962 race before his brakes failed. A dual breaking system has been installed in his conventional car this year. Two more drivers smashed their cars in practice runs Saturday. Both walked away groggly but apparently unhurt.

Eleven days of practice have brought eight accidents without serious injury. Lloyd Ruby of Wichita Falls, who has finished the last three races, crashed his Zink Trackburner against the wall after a piece of his right front wheel broke off coming out of the southwest turn. Rookie Bruce Jacibo of Salem, skidded 909 feet after losing control on the same turn. The car hit a steel pole at the edge of the infield and shot across a ditch. Within less than half an hour, he was in the garage area looking over the extensive damage to his orange and white Vita Fresh Special from the practice run accident.

Dr. Tom Hanna, Speedway medical director, reported Jacobi "coming along OK he just appears shaken up." Jacobi has been racing 10 years but has never started in a 500-mile race, though he has passed the Speedway driver's test. Porter set a new record in the high hurdles traveling the distance in 15 seconds flat. FORT WORTH, Tex. (AP)-Julius Boros, playing with the emotion of a cigar store Indian, moved through heat and wind that wrecked the hopes of most of his closest pursuers Saturday to take a 3-stroke lead through 54 holes in the $60,000 Colonial National Invitation Golf Tournament.

While favorite Jack Nicklaus and others who were in the front ranks floundered, Boros' putter again held him up and he shot a 1-over-par 71 for 208. Doug Sanders was one who came in fighting and his 5-foot birdie putt on 18 pave him a 72 for second place with 211. Boros, starting the third round with 137 for 36 holes, birdied the first hole when he came out of a trap to within 10 feet of the pin and sank the putt. But he bogeyed 3 when he overshot the green and got another bogey on 7 with a straying second shot. He birdied 11 and 13, sending his tee shot close to the pin on the latter and ramming it home for a deuce.

He faltered to a bogey on 16 and had another one on 17 but he wound up with a par on 18 when he sent a 4-foot putt down after rolling past the hole on his first. Tony Lema had a 73 for third place at 213, while five players, including Nicklaus, were grouped in a tie for fourth with 214. Nicklaus wound up with a 74 after starting out with birdies on the first two holes. Bob Rosburg, with a 71; Bruce Crampton, 74, Bobby Nichols, 74, and Gene Littler, 69, were tied with Nicklaus. The Colonial Country Club course, baked by 95-degree temperatures and swept by a 20-mile-per-hour wind, brought soaring scores all the way round.

Arnold Palmer, the defending champion, boomed to a 75 and his 224 had him far down the list. Gary Player, a member of golf's Big Three Nicklaus and Palmer are the others had a 72 for 216 and was tied for ninth place. Only five players bettered par over the long course and a 67 by Bob Goalby was the lowest round a 3-under-par. It gave Goalby 221 for 54 holes. Today's Games i- i aawjaas s.n I mm.
