According to Welfare Commissioner, Max M. Cole, this adjustment reflects an increase in the cost of living as recognized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service.

The adjustment in food stamp tables is made every six months. Because of the increase, a four-person household with an adjusted net income of $250 per month after deductions for certain shelter, medical, and other living expenses are made in the household's total income, after July 1, will pay $71 for $162 worth of food stamps. This is an increase of $8 worth of bonus food coupons. The maximum allowable monthly net income a household may have and still be eligible 1 for food stamps has increased: for a one household from $194 to $215; for a two-person household, from $280 to $300; for a threeperson household, from $406 to $427; and, for a four-person household, 1 from $528 to $540. Larger households have also been increased accordingly.

In some situations, there may be an increase in the amount a person pays for his food stamps. "Each case is different," Commissioner Cole explains. "If you are now eligible to purchase food stamps and think you might be affected by these changes, you should check with your food stamp worker." "Since the maximum income level has also increased, a person who may not have been eligible for the food stamp program because of too much income may become eligible after July 1," commissioner Cole stated. forFather Day, June 15 From FATHERS Center Stonewall, Miss.
