The truck farmers in this part of Mississippi are not at all pleased with the Aveather that has prevailed during the past week and they are unanimously' expressing the hope that the weather man will furnish a warmer article during the week to come.

The growth of berries and vegetables has been greatly retarded by the continued colness of the Aveather and the farmers are thus prevented from getting their products to the market and obtaining the fancy prices usually prevailing at this season. Shipments, according to reports received from Crystal Springs, Gallman, Terry, Madison Station, and the truck fanners around Jackson, during the past week were small in quantity and very scattering. Especially was this true of strawberries, whereas it was expected that an abundant supply could be marketed during the week, which would have doubtless been done had a genial sun supplied the warm rays to ripen the luscious fruit. Warmer weather is also needed for tomatoes and beans, and beets and carrots are much larger than usual. In spite of the back-set given the berry crop the yield this year promises to be the most prolific for several seasons and the berries are of very high quality.

The rain of the past two days was not at all needed, but will cause no injury. J. F. McKay, one of the most prominent planters of the Madison Station neighborhood, gives -a bit of advice to tomato growers that will doubtless be greatly appreciated and generally adopted Of late years the tomato crop has been considerably injured by worms, and Mr. McKay says that the best remedy is to wrap a single thickness of paper around the base of each plant, allowing it to penetrate the soil sufficiently to be held in place, and the worms will give no trouble The remedy is inexpensive and worthy of trial.
