This is our tenth anniversary and we wish to tell you how much we have enjoyed doing: iliTS 8 ih fine 16 hav work- ed hard, but we have had a good time and we would like to share with you some of the ex- penences through the years that have given us a chuckle when we look back. We hope that you will remember the good old days when these various events occurred. i fjt One of the big mysteries through the years has been: Who were the J2? 1 50 1 tn for the giant com borer in the 1950 Legion arade? The close-up shows the borer and Mrs Meredith Grauer who furnished one pair of legs. The other legs, from left, were Jim Andrew, Bill Grauer, Mrs Grauer, Ted Clause and Jim Baldwin. Historical Data Our customer when the store opened on September 24, 1947, was Jim Graven who called in after seeing our announcement ad in the Jefferson Bee and ordered two and one-half tons of fertilizer.

Other customers who made fertilizer purchases on opening day were Leo Egan, Fred Stevens, Hamilton Wheeler, and E. R. Melson. Our poorest day's business was on January 31, 1948, when we failed to make a single sale, in fact the only person who entered our store that day was Dr H. R.

Wesson who then had an office across the street and came over for a social call. Our first introduction to bulk fertilizer came back the summer of 1948 when we bought a thirty ton carload of 0-20-0 which was not properly cured. The large amount of free acid in this fertilizer ate the string out of the paper sacks and fact ate up about half of the sacks themselves. We finally disposed of this fertilizer by spreading it ourselves for Jim Harris of Paton which put us ln fertilizer business. Mfc.

Here is "Old John Stonecipher" irom Squirrel Hollow, alias Charles Forbes, now with Gardner Advertising Co. of St. Louis. It was Chuck, who OI JJ turday night invaded down Jefferson in old clothes patched with Purina checkerboard sacks, a false beard, and in a trembling voice, asked fanners if they had seen "them Purina pigs down at the Andrew Farm Store." TM i You will remember the Legion Day Parade back in 1949 which we all grew beards for. We had a float that year that showed how weeds were killed in 1849 and the above photo shows Jim Andrew and Bob Nelson complete with boots, beards, scythes and water jug cutting weeds in the old fashioned way.

Meanwhile Ken Kinsman sporting a small mustache and complete with cigar, easy chair, the Saturday Evening Post, and a sprayer was killing weeds by using 2, 4-D Weed Killer which we were promoting in 1949. This photo shows Beautena, a Jersey heifer calf, owned by J. L. and Bob Carman, which we raised in OUE store. Jim Andrew, Bob Ken Kinsman are laughing when the picture, was tffcen because Beautena, had just torn a hole in the Purina Calf Startena sack and is helping herself.

We are proud of the fact that J. L. and Bob Carman were our first Purina feed customers when we took on the Purina line and that they have continued on the Purina program through the years. Our Thanks We would particularly like to express our gratitude to two individuals who helped the formation and growth of this business. Back in September of 1947 when this business was started, it was almost impossible to find a vacant store building or office in Jefferson.

Roger Ounlop generously rented us the front one-third of the metal building at our present location which the Dunlop Implement Company had been located. Without this office and warehouse space this business might not have been formed. This business was started on a financial shoe string and the liberal credit extended to us by Warren Garst made our growth and success possible. Warren's belief in fertilizer, commercial feeds, and modern farm supplies and his trust in our business ability have been most helpful. We want everyone to know of our gratitude to Roger Dunlop and Warren Garst, for without their as-.

sistance and trust, the Andrew Farm Store would probably never have started and grown. This choto shows Puny Ike, trying to get a morsel of Purina Hog Chow. This pig had been kept in our store without any Purina feed and was quite happy until several kind hearted customers started slipping him a few Purina Chow Checkers when we weren't looking. He immediately developed a taste for them and would jump like a trained dog to get a pellet to eat. 8 1 i 1 1trate at our Pioneer Com was over knee high the fourth of Ju ve have taken a picture of an attractive Jefferson girl at our Pioneer Ju 'y -V be interested in Photo 1--1954, Margaret Nipps, daughter of Mr and Mrs Bill Nipps.

They have done a fine job for us and we can honestly say that all have left us under friendly circumstances. In appreciation for the help that they have given to make this business a success we would like to list their names. Some have worked for us for years and others were employed only a few hours.
