Mr and Mrs Wesley Moore and (Mr and Mrs Richard Moore helped Dale Moore celebrate his birthday Friday night at the home of Mr and Mrs Ralph Paul near Persia. The Dwain Boeck family were visitors at the Hugo Boeck home Sunday afternoon, Gail Ann was a visitor there from Friday until Sunday. Mr and Mrs Wesley Moore and Mr and Mrs Richard Moore were Sunday evening guests at the Dwain Boeck home in Harlan.

Mr and Mrs Andrew Sorensen, Mrs Eddie Arentson and Mrs Randall Lytle drove to Vinton, Saturday to attend the funeral of a cousin, Grant Pedersoru They stayed overnight at the Wayne home at Cedar Falls. Enroute home Sunday they stopped at the Lynn Sorensen home in West Des Moines, Mr and (Mrs Lawrence Kolterman were Sunday evening visitors at the Ferd Arp home in Shelby. Mr and Mrs James Hockett, Mr and Mrs Lawrence Rasmussen and Mr and Mrs Wesley Moore enoyed a pot-luck supper at the Hockett home Saturday evening. Home for the Christihas holidays are Dale Moore of Iowa State University and Sheryl Hockett of Nettleton College of Sioux Falls, S.Dak. and Mrs Kenneth Tucker were visitors at the Vera Tucker home in Harlan Tuesday evening.

Mrs Irene McCool called at the Matt Pauley home on Friday. Susan and Tommy Tucker attended the Christmas dance at the Neola public school Tuesday evening. Carrie Petersen was a Tuesday afternoon visitor at the Matt Pauley home. Orin Linden is home from Iowa State University for the Christmas holidays. His Mr and Mrs Barrel Linden drove to Ames Friday to get him.

Bert Cox is home from his school at Military Academy at Lexington, to spend the 'Christmas holidays with his nts, Mr and (Mrs Bernard Cox. Fed steers finished mostly 25c higher while fat heifers, under a little more pressure at midweek, finished strong to 25c higher. Steer top for last week was heifer top $24. A rather erratic butcher market, whose complexion changed daily depending on the demand for light hogs, finished with weights under 230 pounds steady to 25c lower while weights over that mark were mostly 50c off.

Week's butcher top $21.50. Sows were steady to 25c lower. Last week's to $16.25. Slaughter lambs lost a littieground overall to finish steady to 25c lower. Last week's top on wooled lambs $22.25, shorn lambs $21.75.

5 adult courses are assured At least five of 10 adult education courses planned by the Harlan Community Schools will definitely be held--five others won't because there wasn't enough enrollment to make them possible, according to Director of Vocational Education Harold (Swede) Johnson. Classes begin Monday, Jan. 9, and adult students will meet weekly from 7:30 to 9 for the next 10 weeks. Enrollment deadline was Dee. 23, Johnson said, "but if there is somebody interested in any of the areas we have publicized, we're still interested in talking with He said 26 persons are enrolled in drivers education; 17 in aircraft ground school, 12 in business education and nine in vocational agriculture.

The Harlan Lions Club is also sponsoring a fifth session, adult recreation. Six persons have enrolled for conversational Spanish, so there is still a possibility a class may be held although minimum ment requirement was originally set at eight persons, Johnson said. In the afternoon they attended funeral services for Willads Bisgard at Graettinger, Iowa. Garey Knudsen, student at Dana College at Blair, spending two weeks Christmas vacation with his parents, QMr and Mrs Chris Knudsen. Mr and Mrs Norman Hansen and Dixie visited at the Gilbert Hoogensen home Sunday night.

Mrs Chris 0, Christensen was a guest at the Ed Hansen home Sunday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Royce Christiansen and Candace were Monday night supper guests in the Dale Jensen home. Mr and Mrs Dean Cleveland and Mr and Mrs Miles were dinner guests at the Donald Ulmer home at Dunlap Sunday. Mr and Mrs Cleveland visited at the Fay and Dwight Mills home Sunday night. The Rex Goodner family visited at the Ed Hansen home Saturday night.

The W.O.C. held their general meeting at the Jacksonville church Thursday afternoon. Circle 3 was in charge of the program and Circle 2 served lunch. The following officers were installed: Mrs Elmer Petersen, president; Mrs Earl Andersen, secretary; and Mrs LuVern Hansen, secretary of stewardship. The circles were reorganized and new officers elected.

Several from this community attended the school program at Elk Horn Wednesday night. Mr and Mrs Laverne Hansen and Layne, Mrs Jorjorie Petersen and (Marlys, Randall Larsen, the Mar's: Petersen family and Glen Christensen family were guests at the David Christensen home Wednesday night for David's birthday. Mrs Gerald Albertus of Persia visited at the Ben Hansen home Wednesday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Leon Petersen, Mrs Annie Petersen, Mr and Mrs Folmer Bonnesen, Mr and (Mrs Clinton Jensen and Sherry, Mr and Mrs Darrell Krohn, Cindy and Lori, and Walter Knudsen were guests at the Chris Knudsen home Friday night in honor of Garey's birthday. The Burdette Poldberg family visited at the Dale Andersen home Sunday afternoon.

Several from this community attended House' 1 at the Lutheran church in Avoca Saturday night in honor of the silver wedding anniversary of Mr and OVrs Everett Eggers.

Cheryll Linde, student at Northwest Missouri State College at Maryville, is spending the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs Elmer Linde. Mr and Mrs Day Bramer visited with Mrs litter Thogersen at the Salem Home in Elk Horn Wednesday in honor of her 86th birthday. iMr and Mrs Ed Hansen and Ilene were Friday night visitors at the Charles Gearhart home. Mr and Mrs Victof Jensen were Sunday dinner guests at the Dale Jensen home. Mr and Mrs David Hansen visited there in the afternoon, Ada Bruning, of the Baptist Memorial Home, accompanied Mr and Mrs Dean Cleveland for supper Tuesday night.

To keep well inform. ed, readers should check carefully the notices which appear under this OFFICIAL PUBLICATION NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION MAYOR'S PROCLAMATION OF SPECIAL ELECTION, TENNANT, IOWA TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE INCORPORATED TOWN OF TENNANT, SHELBY COUNTY, Iowa: AND TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Public notice is hereby given of a general election of the town of Tennant, Iowa, to be held at the regular voting place of said Town of Tennant, Iowa, on January 17, 167, at which time there will be submitted to the legal electors of said town a proposition of granting unto ers Mutual Cooperative Telephone Company, a corporation, its successors and assigns, a franchise for a period of twenty-five (25) years granting unto the said association the right and privilege to construct, maintain and operate in the streets, alleys and public places of said town, a telephone line or lines consisting of poles, wires, conduits, fixtures and appurtenances thereto, belonging, which franchise is fully set out herein below. Town Hall. The polls will be open from eight.o'clock A.M. until eight o'clock P.M.

January 17, 1967 For an election on the question of granting to Farmers Mutual Cooperative Telephone Company a franchise for construction, operation and maintenance of telephone -Sine or lines over, across, and under the streets, alleys and public and private lands in the Town of Tennant, Iowa. PHONE COMPANY, ITS SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS THE RIGHT, FRANCHISE, AND PRIVILEGE, FOR A PERIOD OF TWENTY-FIVE (25) YEARS FROM AND AFTER THE ADOPTION, APPROVAL AND ACCEPTANCE HEREOF, TO ERECT, OPERATE AND MAINTAIN A TELEPHONE SYSTEM IN THE TOWN OF TENNANT, ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TENNANT, IOWA: Section 1. That the Farmers Mutual Cooperative Telephone Company, a non-pecuniary tive corporation organized under the laws of the State of Iowa, (hereinafter referred to as the its successors or assigns, be and they hereby are, granted the right, privilege, and authority for a term of twenty-five (25) years from and after the adoption, approval, and final acceptance hereof, to erect, maintain and operate a telephone system within the present and future corporate limits of the Town of Tennant, Iowa. and said Cooperative, its successors and are granted the right, privilege, and authority to erect all necessary poles, towers, conduits, manholes, wires, Cables, fixtures and apparatus over, across, and under the streets and alleys of the Town of Tennant, Iowa and over and across any private lands therein upon proper proceedings In eminent domain for the said period of time and for said purposes upon the following terms and conditions: Section 2. All poles and fixtures erected, operated and maintained by said Cooperative under and by virtue of this ordinance shall be located, erected and maintained under the suoervision and direction of the Town Council o-f saici ar.rf shall be so located as not to permanently interfere with or obstruct the free public use of or travel over any street or alley, or permanently interfere with the repairs of the same. Section 3.

After the placing o-f any conduit or manhole, or the erection of any pole or fixture, or the removal af any such, said Cooperative, at its own expense, shall restore the surface of the street, alley, or sidewalk 1 which was disturbed by it to the condition in which it was found. The work of restoring the street, alley or sidewalk as afore, said, shall be done under the supervision of the streets and alleys committee of the Town Council of said town. Section 4. This franchise is granted subject to all ordinances now in force in said town and such other reasonable regulation by ordinances, as may be enacted by said Town of Tennant, Iowa. Section 5.

Said Cooperative shall hold the town free and harmless from any and all damages of every kind and character whatsoever caused by the construction, operation or maintenance of said telephone lines, fixtures, and equipment. Section Nothing in this ordinance shall be construed as granting unto said Cooperative an exclusive right or franchise for the use of said streets or alleys for said purposes nor to prevent the grant of similar provileges to. other Individuals or corporations for like purposes. Section 7. The town shall pass such ordinances as the Council may deem necessary or advisable for the due, legal and complete protection of said Cooperative In the enjoyment of all its'rights and privileges granted to it by this grant or franchise, and shall attach penalt of fine cr imprisonment for interference with or damage to the property of said Cooperative.

Section 8. The said Farmers Mutual Cooperative Telephone Company shall furnish to said Town of Tennant, without charge, one telephone station located in the City Hall and one telephone station located in the City Fire Station, in such lo. cations therein as may be designated by the Town Council. Section 9. This ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage and publication according to law and its authorization and approval by a majority vote of the electors voting at special election to be held in the Town of Tennant, Iowa, on the 17th day of January, 1967, and its acceptance by the grantee.
