UP) Michigan State's Earl MorraU stunned Purdue with a 90-yard touchdown run and the Spartans buried the Purdue jinx Saturday, 27-0. The Spartans had lost to Purdue in both previous meetings since Michigan State joined the Big Ten. Before 58,968 Screaming Fans By Jerry Liska CHAMPAIGN, 111. UP) Super-charged Illinois Saturday unveiled a rampaging unknown, sophomore halfback Bob Mitchell, who 64 yards for a back-breaking touchdown and led the Illini to a smashing 25-6 upset of unbeaten Michigan, the nation's No. 3 team. Mitchell, a 20-year-old Negro speedster from Hot Springs, hit vaunted Michigan like a ton of bricks as he entered the game in the third quarter and then streaked to 173 yards in ten i iparks mini Michigan's only touchdown came late in the second quarter when Tony Branoff tore 17 yards to score after an Dlini fumble. The tricky screen pass for a 24-yard touchdown went from Lindbeck to halfback Abe Woods.

After Mitchell's sensational 64-yard touchdown run in the fourth period, the Illini again tallied against the crumbling Wolverines when a pass interception led to a 4-yard scoring smash by Rolla Mc-Mullen. Caught Fire Mitchell first caught fire with a 54-yard scrimmage run midway in the third period to Michigan's 16. That set the stage for the bold Illini fake field goal strategem. Dick Miller, Illinois' regular placement kicker, came rushing onto the field with the Illini stalled on the Michigan 24. Lindbeck, stopping to apparently hold the ball, took the snap from center, straightened up and fired a pass to Woodson near the sidelines behind a bevy of blockers.

Woodson skimmed down the line into the end zone for a touchdown. Miller's point try was low and sailed into the charging Wolverines to leave the Illini ahead 12-6. Morrall made his lonj dash in the second quarter after picking off an attempted lateral by Bill Murakowski, Purdue fullback. It went into the record books as a fumble recovery. Halfback Clarence Peaks added another second-quarter touchdown on a 10-yard end run climaxing a drive started when guard Arch Matsos intercepted a Purdue pass at the Purdue 33.

The Spartans turned two more Purdue mistakes into touchdowns in the third period. Indiana went into Saturday's game a 21-point underdog, but played like a champion most of the way. A first period fumble on Indiana's 33 which Ohio converted into its first touchdown was the big break.

Right behind that touchdown. 'second by Cassady on a one-yard plunge, the Hoosiers, expertly piloted by quarterback Gene Cichow- ski, struck 80 yards in 20 plays with Milt Campbell, the huge Olympic star, plunging a foot for a touchdown. Cassady's second touchdown was a thing of beauty. He returned a kickoff 31 yards, and on third down, after Jimmy Roseboro had gained 5, the redhead broke around his right end for 46 yards before Campbell knocked him out of bounds on the three. Cassady plunged into the end zone on the next play, having contributed 80 yards in the 85-yard advance.

Four Pro Grid Games Set Today By The Associated Press Four games are scheduled Sunday in the National Football loop, with the Cleveland New York struggle in Cleveland's Municipal stadium carded as the week-end's top attraction. In the other outings San Francisco is at Los Angeles, Philadelphia travels to Washington and the Chicago Bears entertain Green Bay. i Baltimore played at Detroit and the Chicago Cardinals met Pittsburg in the Windy City Saturday night. Cleveland's Browns, as usual, are atop the eastern division, losing only to the Washington Redskins. They're solid favorites behind quarterback Otto Graham to keep the Giants 2-4 in the cellar.

The game at Los Angeles is a make-or-break test for both the Rams and the 49ers. Los Angeles could claim the western lead for itself with a victory should Detroit finally arouse itself Saturday night against the Baltimore Colts, while the 49ers 3-3 have to get a move on to figure in the title. The Rams whipped San Francisco 23-14 in the opener. The late starting Bears, who have won three straight to tie San Francisco and Green Bay for third place in the western, are favored to keep it up against the Packers. Green Bay walloped the Bears 24-3 before Chicago got in gear.

Philadelphia is just ahead of New York in the eastern conference with a 2-3-1 record. But the Eagles are favored to reverse an early 31-30 defeat. Milwaukee Pitcher Married At Hartford HARTFORD, Conn. Raymond Hayes Crone, a member of the Milwaukee Braves pitching staff, and Joan Anne Carroll of Hartford were married Saturday in St. Justin's Church.

Ohio State Indiana 20 yards to score after guard Carl Nystrom had recovered a Murakowski fumble on the Michigan State 42. Center John Masko recovered Ed Neves' fumble on the next kick-off and rambled 21 yards into the Purdue end zone. Gerald Planutis kicked three extra points. Time ran out for Purdue in the second quarter after it had driven to the Michigan State three. It fumbled in the first quarter on the Michigan State 11.

Purdue's Lennie Dawson passed That was the beginning of the end. Later in the same period, a Len Dawson-to-Lamar Lundy pass was intercepted by the Spartans on the Purdue 33 and MSU had a touch down five plays later tfor a 14-0 lead. Purdue, 1 with 2 :33 remaining, made a desperate attempt to get back into the game with Peters and ex-Red Devil Lamar Lundy making the key plays. Back on his own 20, Dawson threw a screen pass to Peters who almost got away but was caught on the Spartan 47 after a 33-yard jaunt when Clarence Peaks had the angle on him and ran the Richmond speed ster out of bounds. Down to the Spartan 19 with 16 seconds left, Dawson aimed a pass to Tommy Fletcher, who had entered the game for the first time a short while before, but was rushed and didn't get it to him.

Then he fired up the middle to Lundy who made a great catch on the three-yard line where he was hit. Time ran out before the Boilermakers could get another play away. They were denied a time out since they had used their five legal ones during that half. Two Quick Ones The Spartans left little doubt about the outcome after a pair of third-period touchdowns. Mura-kowski's fumble gave them the ball on their own 42 and they moved across in nine? plays.

Then on the ensuing kickoff. Neves got it on the goal line, returned it to the 21 where he fumbled and MSU's center John Matsko snagged it in the air, taking it over the goal line. Purdue penetrated to the MSU 27 later in the period but a pass interception stopped that bid. In the game's closing minute's, Peters raced deep to snag a Dawfeon pass good for 44 yards to the iSpartan 10 but Dawson fumbled after two incomplete passes and Michigan State recovered. Again, it was Lundy and Uackle Dick Murley who bulwarked the Purdue line on defense.

1 Peters played an excellent game on offense, though he, too, was guilty of one fumble. He carried six times for a total of 30 rustling yards and caught two passes fo a net of 78 yards. Lundy grabbed three aerials for 37 yards. Fletcher, who played only briefly just before the half and again in the fourth quarter but didn't carry. Midway in the opening period, fullback Lou Baldacci tried a jump pass and it was snagged immediately by Illini center Jim Minor on the Illinois 40. The Illini cranked up a scoring drive which went 60 yards in eight plays and got its biggest momentum when Jefferson squirted through Michigan's line for 17 to the Wolverine 25. Hit DesEnfants On the next play, Lindbeck drew a bead on DesEnfants running at full speed into the end zone.

DesEnfants looked over his right shoulder, then his left. Finally, with his back toward the field, DesEnfants speared the ball and somersaulted deep in the end zone. Miller's point try was low and was blocked by Tom Hendricks for a 6-0 Illinois lead. It was with sudden swiftness Michigan got back in the game with time running out in the first half. Lindbeck's handoff was fumbled and Baldacci recovered on the Illini 17.

The Wolverines lined up quickly and sent Branoff punching through left guard. He bolted through the middle of the Illini line into the end zone. Knock off three of the seven Boilermaker fumbles and one of the three pass interceptions by Michigan State and the outcome would have been so much diffreni that people would have been applauding Purdue for a major upset. With all due respect to the Spartans, they had this one handed to them on a silver platter. To their credit, they were capable enough to take advantage of their opportunities on four seperate occasions for touchdowns and a 27-0 victory but there wasn't that much difference between the two clubs this mild afternoon. It turned out to be a much more important win for the Spartans than they may have realized at the time. If they can beat Minnesota in their final conference game and Michigan loses either to Indiana or- Ohio State in its last two efforts, Michigan State probably would be the Big Ten's Rose Bowl representative.

Purdue Has Edge Saturday's ball game, in reality, was close. Statistics gave Purdue a slight edge, 21 to 16 in first downs and 335 to 264 in total yards gained, Michigan State had a rushing edge of 177 yards to 121 yards but the Boilermakers got 214 by passes to 87 for their opponents. Those fumbles broke the Boilermakers backs. Purdue was in the driver's seat before the game was three minutes old and had driven 50 yards to the MSU 16 where it was first and ten. Hard-hitting fullback Bill Murakowski smashed over tackle to the 11 and fumbled, ths Spartans recovering.

Even then, it looked as though Purdue could get the job done. Michigan State drove 84 long yards to a first down on the Boilermaker lOi-yard line but Purdue's line braced and held the Spartans two feet from the goal line. Just before the quarter ended, halfback Ed (Bino) Neves of Purdue gave his mates another shot in the arm with a tremendous 77-yard punt which set the Spartans back on their own 10-yard line. The roof caved in a few moments later just when it appeared the Boilermakers were on their way. Walt Kowalczyk, Spartan right half, fumbled on his own 18 and Erich Barnes recovered for Purdue.

Intercepts Lateral Murakowski got seven yards to the 11, Richmond's Jim Peters picked up two and Murakowski got two more to the Spartan seven. Murakowski tried left tackle, didn't get through, and then attempted to lateral to his left. Quarterback Earl Morrall of the Spartans intercepted it and raced 90 yards down the sidelines with not a soul in his path. OXFORD, Nov. 5 Getting just about all the opposition it could handle, Miami's Redskins squeezed through to a 7-0 win over the highly improved Bowling Green Falcons here today to remain undefeated and clinch its second consecutive Mid-American conference championship before a crowd of 8,210.

It was Bowling Green's first loss, a 6-6 tie with Kent State being the only previous mar on its record. Bowling Green, bearing down on Miami's usually effective end sweeps without leaving its middle too vulnerable, held the Redskins to their lowest offensive net of the year, 245 yards, but could muster only 200 itself as smeared pass attempts cost a total of 38 yards. Miami's one shining march was its payoff drive of 98 yards in five plays late in the second period after Quarterback Tom Dimitroff intercepted a Bowling Green pass on his own 3-yard line. On the next play Napoleon Reid. fullback, broke out through right tackle for 48 yards.

Dimitroff then passed 15 yards to Tirrel Burton and 13 to Tom Troxell; carried 8 up the middle after faking a pass, and flipped to Burton for 13 more at the two. Dave Thelen. sophomore halfback, replaced Troxell and on the next play dived high over the line to score. Dimitroff's placement for extra point was good. Bowling Green had fime to try a long pass before the half ended.

But Thelen intercepted that one. Threaten Only Once Each team made one serious scoring threat in the second half. Bowling Green Halfback Carlos Jackson broke out for 38 yards to the Miami 20, the longest run from scrimmage against Miami this year, but four plays later Miami had driven the Falcons back to the 36 and took over.
