The war workers are really pouring out of California. I I In fact, on V-J Day they left the shipyards so fast the suction JL JL docked three merchant ships at Albuquerque. It was the same way in the aircraft plants. It was pathetic, watching those half-completed P-38s chasing the workers' cars along the highways, crying, "We wanted wings!" I saw the first fellow going East in a car on V-J Day and he had his whole family right behind him. I thought he should have waited for the end of gas rationing it was the first time I ever saw a pogo stick with a rumble seat.

As soon as peace was officially declared, one fellow went right out and bought a $50 car and hit the road and after two miles, vice-versa. A lot of these people have saved some money in their three years of war work out here. On the other hand were those who had gone to a Hollywood night club. It isn't that they don't like the climate here. Most of them have a high regard for the California weather only In February, the weather got higher than their regard.
