St. John 1:43. Subject: "Thou Thou Shalr Be." According to the Scriptures there is a great deal in a name.

A change of name generally characterized a change of life or position. So when we read the story of how Simon was rebaptized, and given a new name by the greatest of all sponsors that to Bay Jesus Himself we can see the significance of this momentous occasion. Before the Christ entered into this baptism He sized up His candidate He looked him over carefully, or to quote the Bible "He looked on him." HARRIS. Bible school, 9:30 a. morning took possession of him, and consecrated hin, with all his natural qualities, to the work which He had planned to confide to him. And it is interesting to follow the stewardship of this postulant as he left this scene for the challenging days up ahead. It is indeed an autobiography, beginning with the Thou Art, and moving on to the Thou Shalt Be.

He had his moments of weakness. He talked out of turn. He exploded when he should have retained his poise. At times he reverted to his former status. On at least one occasion he was a coward, and disclaimed all connections with the Christ, and right at the time when Jesus in His hour of trial needed him most.

Up to the Resurrection the record of Peter was spotty. It was AFTER the Resurrection, that he settled down to a life of real service. The Christ had to die to bring him to his senses. But he was a changed man after this terrible tragedy, and he went to work to live up to the name this same Christ had given him. And when his ministry came to a close, history accorded him the tribute of the deserving, and his name stands today as the Bymbol of constancy and perseverance.

He did not outlast his weaknesses-He overcame them and moved on to glory. He was a Spiritual plugger who found Christianity difficult, but stayed with it and mastered it. When we speak of individuality all kinds of definitions come to mind. It may mean separation from the usual. It may mean accordance with the usual yet excelling in certain traits.

It may convey the idea of independent thought and action. This last definition is the most 'inaccurate and absurd of them all. The best meaning I can give to this valuable word is to associate it with a Spiritual background. Individuality, as I see it, is not a synonym correlating independence, but a synonym embracing reliance and faith upon and in the graciousness and power of the divine. It really signifies "one possessed by God." This truth shows itself, not only in personalities, but also in their creations.

When I study the output of those extremists who daub their way to the front by presenting works of art repulsive to the eye, as so many of our modern sketches appear, and then are awarded the prizes, I come to the conclusion that they who create them and they who judge them are not individualists, but freaks. There is a difference! Last week I listened intently to two persons touted by the world as great artists husband and wife were rendering a composition for two pianos and written by the husband, and all this was supported by a great symphony orchestra. Never in my life have I ever heard a work so lacking in melody and in theme. To me it was a cacophony of clashing distortions, and detonating to the ear. The ear for good music.

It too, was modern How people can take this stuff in preference to the real masters is beyond me. I recommend to all aspiring composers and painters and authors today that they get in touch with God. The truly great paintings and compositions and pictures which have stood the test of time, came from men who associated with the divine in one way or another. And their works show it. These modern apostacies are the result of the modern trend toward canonizing the freak with his many misnotions of beauty and melody and Individuality means "one possessed by God." This truth carried Peter to the heights of usefulness and glory.

This is a truth we must hold on to. For it can elevate us to true success in terms of stewardship. God does not pick out the perfect man to serve Him. He selects the man or the woman' far from perfection, yet who shows signs of great promise. He cites the Thou Art and concludes with the Thou Shalt Be.

"Simon" will represent our start. "Cephas" must be our designation at the close of this life. All the faults of human nature will get in our way we shall have our ups and downs our moments of despair and our moments of inspiration. We shall exhibit weakness and even cowardice at times. Yet if we keep plugging away at our ideals, our best, will in due time prevail.

Living as we do after the Resurrection we cannot escape its influence and power on our lives. "Christ had to die to bring us to our senses! This event heightened our individuality not in terms of in-dependance, but of dependence on God to help see us through. This kind of individuality will come about through constancy and through perseverance. Yes, there IS a new kind of personality abroad today, and we run into it as we mingle with people. It is synthetic In its nature, and is constructed from the outside in.

It holds up rather well in any normal setting, but it is not master of the exigencies and emergencies. When reality presses in, or the storm breaks, it cracks at the seams, since it is held together only by the outside. The pressures of life are too great for it. Let ours be the individuality resting oh inner control and direction. Let our hearts be invested with that Spiritual firmness which results from being possessed of God.

No other arrangement can stand up under the pressures of this day. Nor be able to take the punishments and failures our moral world is called upon to wrestle with in this hour of history. In our weaker moments we prefer to remain Simon. In our saner moods we hope and pray to be Peter. By plodding and by plugging away, we shall leave" the category of the Thou Art for that nobler and higher existance of the Thou Shalt Be.

The only hope for Christianity is to stay with It, and see it through. You and I are committed to this task! THEN On October 19, 1885, fifteen months ahead of contract schedule, the City Council directed the Muncie Water Works Company to start operation. Equipment specified in the contract included a brick building (located on South Brotherton Street), two pumps capable of furnishing two million gallons of water daily, seven miles of water pipes, and eighty-five fire hydrants. Muncie's population then was 5,200, and it was a prospering county seat and marketing center. NOW Today, to serve Muncie's 50,000 citizens and numerous industries, there are 124 miles of mains and 667 fire hydrants.

pumpage averages 5,500,000 gallons. At present two wells are being equipped with electrically driven pumps, greatly increasing their capacity. Other improvements, already planned will get under way as soon as materials are available.
