Published Is New Mass By Sister Carola Sister M.

Carola, CSA, former organist and director of music at St. Mary's parish and school in Oshkosh, has had her last compositional mass, "Mass in Honor of Saint Albert the Great," published by the Gre- gorian Institute of America, Inc. The mass is dedicated to the memory of Albert Cardinal Mey-er, with arrangement for congregational singing for mixed choirs. It was approved by the Commission on Sacred Music of the Chicago Archdiocese. Sister Carola, now at St.

Mary's School, Fond du Lac, has composed three other masses and four operettas. The masses are "Mass in Honor of the Sacred Heart," "Mass in Honor of the Immaculate Conception" and "Mass for the Faithful Departed," all in keeping with the new liturgy. As teacher of singing during her 27 years in Oshkosh, Sister Carola directed girls' choirs which won first or second place three times in six years in the women's choral division of the Chicagoland Music Festival. A member of the Sisters of St. Agnes for 46 years, she is the granddaughter of a Methodist minister and began her organ career in that denomination, later playing the organ at All Saints Episcopal Church, Apple-ton.

During this period, she was organist in a Jewish synagogue while continuing her music studies at Lawrence University, where she earned her music degree. She did graduate work at Wisconsin College of Music, Milwaukee, and at Montreal University. This was why Paul preached "Christ and Him crucified." He knew that it was only through the death of Christ on the cross that man's sin could be forgiven.

Have you come to the Christ of the cross and accepted His sacrifice for your sin? His atoning work is still efficacious today. Why not believe and receive pardon now and change the course of your life? 4 Rev. Ortwin Hanson All Men Must Answer To The Cross (By the Rev. Ortwin Hanson, pastor of First Assembly of God Church) The apostle Paul, who possibly did more for the spreading of the Gospel than any other person, except Jesus Christ, had a secret for his success. In I Corinthians 1:23, he said "We preach Christ crucified." Again in First Corinthians 9:16 he states "For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: For necessity is laid upon; yea, woe is unto me if I preach not the gospel." Then he declares, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: For it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that be-lieveth; to the Jew first and also to the gentile." What was the significance of the cross that Paul preached? The busy, preoccupied, thoughtless world sees the cross as a pleasing feature in design and decoration, or in a haze of ritual and religious symbolism.

With Paul, we would make the message clear, for it is the power of God unto salvation. All major truths in God's Word run to the cross, and from it, and around it. It is the center of all history of ages past and ages yet to cone. All the purposes, promises and judgments of God are gathered here, for all men must answer to the cross. What will you do with Jesus and his death for you on the cross? This is the most important question in your entire life.

Volumes have been written describing the things that were seen on that day "Sitting down they watched Him there." They saw a common execution; soldiers, nails, a cross, the inscription in three languages for the world to read, "Jesus of Nazareth the King of the Jews." But what they did not see is by far more important than what they did see. The sufferer had been three hours on the cross. He was utterly in the hands of his crucifiers. It was man's doing, mans satisfaction and man's cross. To Atone for Sin But the scene changes.

"Now from the sixth hour (noon) there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour (3 p.m.). From now on, man's cross of hate becomes God's cross as the only means of salvation." Man had pronounced the death sentence, saying, "We will not have this man to rule over us. Away with Him, crucify Him, cucify Him!" It seems that Heaven and earth as well as Hell agreed that He must die. But it is not possible to put Him who is the "Resurrection and the Life" to death. Jesus said, "I have power to lay down my life and power to take it again." Christ laid down His life voluntarily.

God took the cross out of their hands and it now becomes the place of execution of God's judgment against sin. Therefore, the One hanging between two thieves, though sinless, is struck with the full fury of God's wrath against Sin. Why should He be thus smitten since he was sinless? "He became sin," and it is sin that God is dealing with in this judgment. Therefore, the One upon the cross receives the full fury of God's wrath against sin, since he has taken upon Himself, voluntarily and vicariously, the sins of the whole world. The cross is now "God's altar" of which all sacrifices were but a type in order that mankind might receive forgiveness.
