Bragg, war hero, attorney and publicist, aged eighty-five years, end widely known throughout the state of Wisconsin, died at hit home on East Division street, this city, late yesterday afternoon.

He sustained a severe stroke of paralyse Wednesday night. The general had been confined to his bed for the lat week, but his condition was not regarded as eerlous until the etroke of paralysis became manifest. Since the seizure he has remained in an unconscious condition. The members of the family were gathered at the bedalde, they expecting the end to come at any minute of the day. Other relatives have been summoned by telegraph.

Mrs. Sherman of Oak Park, 111., a daughter, arrived last night. Colonel and Mrs. George P. Schriven of Washington, D.

Mrs. Schriven being another daughter, wero expected here today. Gen. Edward Stuywsant Bragg was quite distinguished. He was commander of the famous Iron Brigade, a former congressman.

United States minister to Mexico under the Cleveland administration, and consul general to Havana from which post he was transferred to Hongkong during the Roosevelt regime. He was born in Unadllla, Otego county, N. February 20, 1827. His father, Joel Bragg, was a Ver-monter, and a farmer, millwright and mason. Hi mother was Margaret Kohl, born in Lancaster, in 1787 and iho emigrated to the Keystone state from Frankfort-on-the-Matn, Germany.

As soon as Bragg could arrange his personal affairs he began recruiting a company "for three years or during the war'' and, on May 12, 1861, was commissioned Its captain, the command being known as Bragg's Rifles, though officially listed as Company Sixth Wisconsin volunteer infantry, and soon destined to see active service at the front as a part of the Army of the Potomac. The war record of General Bragg is a story of daring, of bravery and fortitude which stands out as a luminous tribute to the memory of this man as a soldier, statesman and citizen. He rose rapidly from the rank of captain to be major, lieutenant colonel, colonel and brigadier He took part-In all of the campaigns of the Army of the Potomac where he won repeated plaudits for his bravery as a soldier and skill as a commander.
