The first title suggested after-war new models in firearms. The second book might be dispersed nearly 100 per cent at any Induction Center.

But the third one, Complete Guide to Handloading, piqued our revived colorful memories of the (probably) incomplete and unguided handloading some of us used to do, long before we'd had as much at any one time as The gun belonged to Wyman Lail. It was a beautiful little doublebarrel .410, and with it went one hundred brass cases. The kind you SHORTENING Bakerite, 1 Bakgrite, Crisco, 1 glass Criaco, 1b. class Durkee'6, 1 la. Durkee's 3 fb.

We had no reloading tools, and wouldn't have known what to do if we had. Our method was to insert the primer cap in the end of the case, fill with powder until it looked 'bout right, shove down on a scissor-cut pasteboard wad and pour in enough shot to fill the remaining vacancy, sealing the finished work of art with wax. Most of the West-end kids helped reload Wyman's shells; and some of us East-enders. Baron Burch, Randall Kitt, Avery Rowlette and others represented the West end, while Bud Miller, Horace Watton, Dan Prager, Harold Carl Brannon and brother, Paul, and this writer symbolized the East end gang. Seldom did one of the home-made shells misfire.

Although once in a while a too-small boy would draw one of the over-loaded shells. A sore shoulder would be his lot. 2 2 paredness on the fishing front. Last season's catch was pretty good, Warner said. Another Item of 40 years ago: Ed Bargdoll today saved the life of fishing companion when a westbound Burlington passenger train, running in a head-wind, silently caught Bargdoll and James Abshire half way across the river bridge west of Chillicothe.

Quick thinking on Bagdoll's part undoubtedly -saved the lives of both when he prompted Abshire to cling from the outside guard-rail, as he was doing. Neither angler was hurt. Fishing was finished for the day. OBITUARY Howard Lile passed away at the home of his brother, Edgar north of Chillicothe, March 11, 1944 at the age of 69. He was the son of Mr.
