Inquiries to410-233-2400. BLOME, Joan Shanahan On July 21, 2003, JOAN SHANAHAN BLOME. Hernick- name wasSmoke. Where there a smoke, there a fire. Sadly, that fire went out on July Smoke a year long battle withcancer.

Smoke loved life and lived it well. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and loved the Chesapeake Bay area. Smoke and her husband George (nicknamed Geo) raced sailboats for thirty years. They cruised the Caribbean in their retirement. Their favorite place in the world was GIbson Island, Maryland, where they spent their summers.

Smoke loved the sea, and enjoyed living on boats. And then there was the singing and dancing! Smoke created a party wherever she went. She loved singing, and would write and perform songs and parodiesforall her friends. A song from Smoke was a special gift. Smoke had unforgettable style.

She was the life of the party and delighted her friends with her spunk and wit. She kept in touch with all of them through decades of friendship. Smoke loved giving parties, and did it for a living. She spent many happy years working for President Hollis Moore of Bowling Green State University. Three of her children attended college there, and enjoyed having their Mother on campus.

Smoke also taught bridge, and was an excellent player herself. And she could rip through the Sunday New York Times Crossword puzzle at an amazing pace! Smoke a spirit will live on inthe children she had with Geo. She was the mother of five. Her children will miss her exuberance and irreverant sense ofhumor. She taught them how to cha-chaand jitterbug while waiting for the bus in their elementary school years.

She wrote cheers for the daughters during the cheerleading years. She made doing homework fun! Smoke a joy and cheerful disposition were contagious. Together, she and Geo provided their children with childhoods filled with fun, laughter, singing, dancing, and love. Hervivacious spirit graced their lives, and will continue to guide them.Smoke leaves behind the love of her life, her husband Geo. They met on ablind date andwere married for 54 years.

Their marriagewas romantic and playful. Smoke knew how lucky she was to have a husband as wonderful as Geo, who loved her completely. She loved him back with all her heart and soul. They appreciated their blessings, and this made it possible for them to face their troubles and tragedies. Together, they mourned the loss of their youngest child Andy, who was killed at the age of seven.

Smoke is survived by her husband Geo, and her four children: Jib Browning ofSarasota, Florida: Jennifer Blome of St. Sander Blome ofSarasota, Florida, and Dr. Randy Blome of Gresham, Oregon.
