NEW Lincoln High School's 1969 Golden Eagle football team may be smaller in stature than past Eagle elevens, and depleted of experienced talent, yet seldom have we seen a more aggressive crew than Coach Buzz Duff has this year. The eager Eagles will tangle with their first opponents in the Tri-Eastern Conference jamboree at Centerville Friday night, just one week later they open the nine-game regular season against the Milan Indiana at Lincoln Fielij, Sept 5.

In the TEC jamboree accumulative scores will not be recorded and after a score, the ball will be put in play on the 40 yard line, instead of the usual kick-off routine. The first quarter starting at 7:30 pits Centerville against Brookville followed by Lincoln-Hagerstown, UniQn City-Centerville, Lincoln-Brookville and Union City-Hagerstown. Cliff Dickman and Bob Keys of Richmond and Jim Logemarcino and Walt Stebing of Hagerstown will officiate the five quarter evening. Coach Duff is expected to open the Eagles jamboree action with senior letterman, Bill Ervin at the T-formation quarterback slot. Senior letter-man, Bob Funkhouger, a southpaw, can be used as signal caller, but will probably see most action at halfback.

Junior Dana Coddington, another running back is being groomed to quarterback, also. Other halfbacks expected to see plenty of action are Tim McCullum, senior letterman, letterman Mark Hosey, a senior and senior Steve Slonaker. Mike Petty, senior letterman at halfback or fullback sustained elbow in practice and will be sidelined for at least two weeks. Jerry Hieks, a junior, and sophomore' Mike Munchel will work from the fullback slot. Sparse oh experience at most positions could hamper the Eagles early season performance, but they are a squad with exceptional determination and spirit Senior letterman, John Henry Henry will be at one end position while juniors Greg Prezbin- dowski and Wickes, and sophomore Greg Bertsch are, fighting for the other end post.

Senior letterman Jerry Rihm, junior Jim Cox and sophomore Ron Fox are tackle candidates. Cox can be used at guard also; He lettered last year. Rihm at 196 pounds and Fox 250 are "the giants" on this year's squad. Steve Schrader, senior letterman, will start at guard while-Jeff Harrison and Jack Leverton battle for the other positions: Randy Haler and Gary Fishback, juniors, are vicing for ihe center post. Several other lads at various positions could make themselves known.

Duff had 73 lads report for football, including 33 freshmen. Several big and agile frosh may break into varsity uniforms before the season is too old if present performances can be a yardstick to the future. Duff said, "We're small, but not afraid to hit." "We're aggressive, but it'll probably take two or more of us to stop the bigger veteran runners." This is Buzz Duffs 13th year at the helm of Lincoln football. Joe Codiano is an ole timer, 14 years at Brookville, Ken Jordan is beginning his second year as head man at Centerville'while Mark Surface is new at Union City as is Ron Wilson at Hagerstown. i teffrin Coach Duffs staff is the same as last year; Jack Callahan, line coach: Larry Stanley, reserve team; Merle Cromwell, Frosh coach.

teffrin Again, we caution, Centerville appears the team to beat in the TEC chase but sell Brookville short and, Lincoln, Hagersbown and Union City could pull some seffrin safi: Handy billfold and purse size football and basketball schedules of the Golden Eagles are aprain available at Bogue Insurance Stop At 'The Friendly Station" You'll Be Glad You Did!
