I often that a movie comes along celebrating such simple pleasures as fine bread and homemade wine, but that is the case with The Bread, My Sweet, a film showing at the Rotunda Cinematheque. Scott Baio plays a second-generation Italian who leads two lives, that of a hotshot corporate raider and that of a compassionate owner of a biscotti company. The inspiration for the story comes in part from a Pittsburgh-based bakery, the Enrico Biscotti which also styled the food shown in the movie and taught Baio how to bake. You can order Enrico biscotti by calling 412-281-2602 or visiting www.enricobiscotti.com. let heat dissuade you from adding a bit of spice to your foods.

Baltimore spice maker McCormick Co. advises pairing spicy flavors such as pepper, ground mustard and wasabi powder with cool foods such as citrus, melons, cucumber, yogurt, sour cream, avocados and mint. Chili powder and ground mustard can be combined with brown sugar, beer and applesauce for a spicy-sweet dip. Mangos provide a sweet dimension to shrimp que- sadillas flavored with red pepper, allspice and thyme. Or try this variation on a traditional fruit salad: Combine cup white wine, cup orange juice, 2 tablespoons honey, teaspoon vanilla, teaspoon ground cinnamon and teaspoon ground black pepper.

Pour over 10 cups of cubed summer melons, such as watermelon, cantaloupe or honeydew. Toss gently and chill 1 hour to 4 hours before serving. For more recipes, visit www.mccormick.com.
