I Daily Northwestern 16' I 1 tt i iy rz uJ Paperweights Are Purchased For Art Center NEENAH Among the outstanding recent acquisitions of the Bergstrom Art Center in Neenah is a group of 12 glass items in the paperweight technique, the work of the famous American glassmaker, Charles Kaziun of Brockton, Mass. According to Paul Jokelson, president of the National Paperweight Collectors Association, of Scarsdale, New York, and a member of the Neenah Municipal Museum Foundation, Kaziun is one of the very few living, producing glassmakers who are able to make paperweights and related items, in the paperweight technique, equal in quality and beauty to the antique French weights. The group of Kaziun weights are the recent gift to the Neenah Museum of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph S.

Johns of Wilmette, Illinois. Collectors themselves, they have already presented to the Bergstrom Art Center nineteen Modern Baccarat sulphide weights portraying famous people, in additfon to the complete Baccarat zodiac series. These latter weights, one for each month or sign, portray in sulphide the zodiac sign on either a powder blue or dark George A. Kuklinski William H. Engel Wed; Oct.

23, 1963 Detective Will Stand Court Trial MILWAUKEE 'UPI The way was clear today for a circuit court trial for suspended Milwaukee detective Harry Daniels, after- Atty. Gen. George Thompson Tuesday signed a six-count criminal information. Daniels was named early this year in the first warrant handed down by the 17-month-old John Doe investigation into crime and corruption in Milwaukee County. He is charged with bribery, soliciting a bribe, misconduct and false swearing.

Thompson turned over the information to assistant Atty. Gen. Leroy Dalton, the chief John Doe investigator, for filing in the Milwaukee criminal court clerk's office. The information amounts to a criminal complaint and warrant. The signing of the information was necessary in order to schedule Daniels' arraignment and circuit court trial.

Daniels was bound over to circuit court for trial May 7 by County Judge F. Ryan Duffy after jl preliminary hearing. The original warrant against Daniels contained nine counts, but Judge Duffy dismissed three aiding and abetting prostitution, aiding a felon and an accompanying offense of Neenah Bank Promotions For I Announced NEENAH S. N. Pickard, president of the National Manufacturers Bank has announced the apppointment of George A.

Kuklinski and William H. Engel to the position of assistant cashiers of the bank. Kuklinski, who joined the bank in August of 1962 as director of operations and personnel, came here from First National Bank of Oshkosh where he had been employed since 1949. A graduate of Oshkosh High School, he also attended the School of Financial Public Relations at Northwestern University in Chicago and has completed work offered by the American Institute of Banking. He recently directed the changeover of the bank bookkeeping operations to a fully automated computer system.

Married and the father of two children, he resides at Wheeler's Point, Neenah. Engel, manager of the savings department, joined the bank in August, 1954, following service with the armed forces in Korea. A leader in the Boys' Brigade and active in the Neenah-Me-nasha Junior Chamber of Commerce, Engel graduated from Neenah High School, Oshkosh Business College and has completed work in the American Institute of Banking. Seated are Dr. NEENAH About 150 Neenah High School girls are expected to participate in a "Sports Play Day" to be held at the school following classes on Thursday. According to Miss June Tenckhoff, Neenah High School dean of girls, the event is intended as a social recreational get-together for all interested girls. Sponsors of the program are the Girls' Senate and Girls' Athletic Association, both of Neenah High. Miss Tenckhoff is adviser to the Girls' Senate, while Miss Lois Craig serves as adviser to GAA.

Refreshments will be served the girls in the school's cafeteria from 3:45 to 4 p.m., after which recreational activities will begin in the school's four gyms. MENASHA Four class floats parading through Menasha streets Friday night will kick-off the 1963 Homecoming festivities for St. Mary High School at 6:30. The St. Mary Zephyrs will collide with Oshkosh Lourdes Knights on the gridiron at 7:30 p.m. A dance will follow the game at 9:30 p.m.

in the St. Mary gymnasium. Standings for the two schools in the Fox Valley Catholic Conference indicate that the game could be a thriller. St. Mary's has won two games, tied two and lost one, while the Lourdes Knights have won three and lost two games.

This week has been a busy one for the Zephyr High School students. Each of the grades will be trying for the prize money of $5 and first place. Run-nerups will win $4, $3, and $2, respectively. It is rumored the seniors will have a tough time getting their float out of a garage. In order to avoid over-congestion at the ticket gates, the freshmen and sophomore classes will proceed in the parade to Sixth Street and enter the field by means of the rear gate.

Junior and senior classes will enter by the main gate. "Lavender Blue" is the theme of the annual St. Mary Homecoming dance. Ralph S. Johns reside at 1046 Seneca Road in Wilmette, 111., and Mr. Johns is a member of the firm of Hask-ins and Sells of Chicago. He was elected to membership in the Neenah Municipal Museum Foundation in 1962. The world reknown Bergstrom collection of glass paperweights with these recent additions, now numbers over 700 pieces, including items such as mantel ornaments, doorstops and knobs, wig stands, hand coolers, buttons and bottles.

The recent loan of 20 Bergstrom weights to Brooks Memorial Gallery in Memphis, and to the St. Paul Art Center have given the Bergstrom Art Center even more recognition in this special type of artifact. The St. Paul exhibition of the Bergstrom weights will close Nov. 14.

Government Will Help In Payments NEW YORK UPD The federal government has agreed to pay part of the damages resulting from the in-flight collision of two airliners over New York City in 1960 the worst disaster in aviation history. The Justice Department disclosed Tuesday it would pay 24 per cent of the damages involved in the collision of a United Airlines DC 8 jet and a Trans World Airlines piston craft. The collision- over Staten Island killed all 128 persons aboard both planes and six bystanders in Brooklyn where the jet crashed to earth. The TWA plane crashed in a field on Staten Island. According to the agreement between the government and the two airlines, United will pay 61 per cent and TWA 15 per cent of the damage settlements to survivors of those killed as a result of the accident.

Total cost of the settlements is expected to reach $10 million. The accident happened at 10:33 on the morning of Dec. 16. At that time the approach controller at Idlewild International Airport radioed a routine message to the DC8 pilot on weather conditions and runway data. There was no reply from the plane.
