Allan Danforth, instructor of health assessment in the School of Nursing and adult nurse practitioner for the Florida University School of Nursing's Wellness Center in Gretna, was inducted as a fellow into the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners last month.

'FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY Graduate studies gets new dean: Internationally recognized oceariogra-pher Nancy Marcus has been named dean of graduate studies at Florida State University. Marcus, 55, begins her new job Aug. 9.

Her new salary is still being negotiated. She's served on the FSU faculty since 1987 and succeeds Dianne Harrison, who was appointed vice president for academic quality and external programs in April. Marcus, the Mary Sears Professor of Oceanography, heads the oceanography department and is director of the FSU Living-Learning Community for Women in Mathematics, Science and Engineering. She served as director of the FSU Marine Laboratory from 1989 to 2001. FSU has more than 200 graduate programs, including 73 doctoral programs.

Weidner appointed to chair: Florida State University Provost Larry neering studies in 1989. Shirah has served on the Board of Trustees since 2001. Stanfield was appointed to the board by Gov. Jeb Bush in 2001. She is the manager for Apple Education Strategic State Initiatives in Florida.

A native of Tallahassee, she holds a bachelor's degree in communications and a master's in public administration from Florida State University. Trustees are appointed to four-year terms by the governor and are confirmed by the Florida Senate. Shirah and Stanfield will serve in their new capacity for one year. Columba Bush awards scholarships: Five local Hispanic high-school students were awarded scholarships to Tallahassee Community College by Florida's First Lady, Columba Bush, last week. They were among 20 who received a total of $40,000 in Hispanic-American Commitment to Educational Resources scholarships -funded by the Ronald McDonald Charities and local donors.

The TCC-bound students are Cecilia Post of Chiles High, Marcela Saldarriaga of Godby High, Suzana Maldonado of Florida State University High, Jeanette Gonzalez of Wakulla High and Noa Rivera of West Gadsden High. CHIPOLA COLLEGE Chipola to get one-stop building: Chipola College students will soon enjoy one-stop student services for the first time in the college's 58-year history. Students who attend Chipola in the fall will have access to a range of student services from admissions to graduation. A new $4 million Student Services building will house the business office, enrollment services, admissions, registration, financial aid, counseling, advising and testing.

It will also house information systems and the college switchboard. There is also a large meeting room for student groups. Democrat staff Abele has appointed Dean Don Weidner to the newly created Alumni Centennial Chair at the College of Law. The chair endowed in excess of $1 million was established by several alumni to honor Weidner for his many years of leadership at the law school. Weidner will hold the chair for as long as he is a member of the faculty.

When he retires, it will be renamed the Donald J. Weidner Chair, and it will be used to support the sitting dean of the law school. Weidner served as dean of the law school from 1991 to 1997, interim dean from 1998 to 2000, and again from '2000 to the present. TCC Follett gives gift to TCC: Tallahassee Community College's scholarship fund has received a financial boost from the Follett Higher Education Group. Follett, which operates TCC's bookstore, has presented a $125,000 gift to the TCC Foundation.

Follett Higher Education Group is a family-owned bookstore management company that has been in operation for 132 years. In addition to TCC, Follett operates 57 college stores in Florida, including the University of Florida, Florida State University, Miami-Dade College and Florida Community College at Jacksonville. Follett opened its bookstore on the TCC campus in April 2005. Trustees chair, vice chair named: The Tallahassee Community College District board of trustees named Kathy Shirah chair and Lyn Stanfield vice chair at its July 18 meeting. Shirah, who represents the citizens of Wakulla County on TCC's board, is president of Shirah Design Construction Inc.

Finley had a liver transplant in August 2003, and used Tylenol according to package directions, she said for years as a treatment for migraines.

"Tylenol is extremely dangerous to your liver," said James John Zonas, the Naples attorney representing Finley.
