7, and a son, 14. Even so, we create an incredible clutter. So I've started using a system of fines with good results. It only applies to the kitchen, family room and living room areas. Whoever does not put an item away is subject to a fine: one cent for our 7-year-old; five cents for our 14-year-old; 10 cents apiece for myself and my husband.

The person who discovers the infraction collects the fine. It applies to assorted things such as leaving a pop can on the end table; walking over the TV schedule rather than putting it on the shelf; leaving crumbs on the table after a snack; ignoring ice cream drips on the floor. It certainly has made me a much neater person. Money motivates us all in some way. The children accept it because they often catch me and they don't resent it because the rules apply to all.

To date, we haven't extended it to the bedrooms or den because we don't want a total police state. But at least the "company end" of our house is always presentable for drop-in guests. C. "There will be hours during which time they can associate under supervision in a program." Sielaff said there will be no opportunity for sexual contact between the men and women. "I don't think that society would sanction that," he said.

"I think that as an administrator I represent the attitude of society and I intend not to sanction it." "We had a co-ed program at three women's prisons in Pennsylvania and there wasn't constant supervision of men and women together," he said. "Our experience was that the men considered it such a privilege that they were very reluctant to abuse it." Stretch marks will fade er an auttinobile accident old SPRINGFIELD, 111. (AP) -Three male inmates have been moved into the Illinois Women's Reformatory at Dwight in the first stage of a planned conversion of the institution into a co-ed prison. The men, all in their early 30s, arrived July 27 from the state's minimum-security prison at Vienna. They have been assigned to groundskeep-ing duties at the reformatory, which has 128 women convicts and a capacity for 300.

Director Allyn Sielaff of the Illinois Department of Corrections said that if the program works as expected, more men gradually will be moved into Dwight. "We're going to do it in a planned way," Sielaff said. "We're not just going to bring men in. We have to develop programs that they can fit into." Sielaff, who assumed his post in June after five years as head of the Pennsylvania prison system, told of the previously unannounced program in an interview with The Associated Press. The male inmates occupy one of 11 cottages at the reformatory 80 miles south of Chicago.

The plan is to put them in classroom and recreational programs with women convicts, as well as special ones designed for men only. "Eventually, they'll be participating in certain programs together," Sielaff said. could be stretch marks. I am taking a chance and guessing at that because of the location of the marks. The tissues underneath the skin vary in texture from person to person, and stretching of the skin from overweight or pregnancy or (occasionally) from rapid growth can stretch these fibers until they separate.

It isn't painful, but it leaves those "stretch marks." Some people never seem to get any; others get them quite readily, and gaining too much weight, and especially gaining it too fast, is the principal cause. There frankly isn't anything you can do about them except ignore them or cover them with cosmetics there are special types which can very accurately match the color of your skin. If they are pink now, they will fade in time. I've written fairly often about stretch marks, so possibly your "ugly marks" are something else. If so, what about asking your family physician or a dermatologist? Dear Dr.

Thosteson: Aft By G.C. THOSTESON, MD Dear Dr. Thosteson: I have written you about six times, but you never print anything like it. I have some real ugly marks on my thighs, breasts and hips and would like to know where they come from and how I can get rid of them. I sec them on older people.

I am 15 and am not fat. Please print this because I just can't go out in a bathing suit with these marks, and I would like to be a lifeguard. CM. I'm sorry, sweetie, but you just haven't given me much to go on. "Ugly marks" could mean stretch marks, moles, warts, psoriasis, eczema.

If you haven't asked your doctor what they arc, have you even asked your mother? Seeing the marks, she'd probably be able to guess better than I can. But I'll take a shot at it, anyway. The accident may have had nothing to do with the finding. Dear Dr. Thosteson: My husband is a heavy drinker. He tells me he wants to quit and he wanted me to write to you about something that makes you sick every time you drink any alcohol. What is it and where can I get it? Mrs.

B.H. There are medications that make a' person sick if he takes any alcohol. Best known is Antabuse. But thesesare tricky medications to handle, and available only on prescription, so your husband would have to be under care of a physician to use them. I wonder how much he really wants to quit when he wants YOU to write instead of writing himself.

I'm rather afraid that he's been looking for somebody else to do it all for him. That isn't likely to work. He's got to want to do the stopping himself. Dr. Thosteson welcomes all reader mail, but regrets that, due to the tremendous volume received daily, he is unable to answer individual letters.
