Paul saw a good amount of playing time, but his only catch was a 64-yard touchdown pass from Gunnar Jespersen that made it 17-0 in the second quarter. "I was on my knees," Paul said. "I was just thanking God. Everything I've been through I'm just happy to be back. I'm just so happy to be back." McCoy had 135 yards at half-time, but Duquesne (3-3, 1-2) had to settle for two field goals by Eric Duale on long second-quarter drives and trailed, 17-6.

"That one conversion play will not define the whole football game," Schmitt said. "We'll look at the film and see 20 or 30 things. We didn't put the points on the board when we were in the red zone." Central allowed McCoy's big day which included a 48-yard touchdown run and gains of 51 and 46 yards among 24 carries but never trailed, going up 31-16 on fullback Eric Richardson's second touchdown, a 1-yard run with 3:50 left. But penalties for interfering with the return man on the high, short kickoff and roughing the passer helped Duquesne answer 1:43 later on Patterson's 9-yard pass to Williams that made it 31-23. Central went three-and-out to set up Duquesne's final drive.

By JAY SPIEGEL jspiegelcourant.com NEW BRITAIN Call it another challenge met for Central Connecticut. And this one was the real McCoy Central survived a 246-yard rushing performance by Du-quesne's Larry McCoy and two Dukes touchdowns in the final 2:07 for a 31-29 victory Saturday before 3,957 at Arute Field. Duquesne drove 89 yards and scored with no time left on Sean Patterson's 5-yard pass to Dave Williams that brought the Dukes within two. Patterson then hit Akeem Moore with a conversion pass that would have forced overtime, but Moore was ruled to have stepped out of the back of the end zone before coming back for the catch in the middle of the end zone. Duquesne did not dispute the call.

Coach Jerry Schmitt said Moore told him he had stepped out of bounds as he tried to improvise when he saw Patterson scrambling. "When I saw his hat, the official, I knew that's what he was doing," Schmitt said. "It's just disheartening when you score like that, you'd like to see the teams go and play the overtime." Central (4-2, 3-0) set a school record with its 12th straight home win and remained unbeaten in league play as it tries to defend its Northeast Conference title. Robert Morris (5-1, 4-0) is the only other team unbeaten in the NEC. Blue Devils coach Jeff Mcl-nerney said he did not see the official throw his cap and did not immediately realize the conversion catch wouldn't count.

"I was getting ready for overtime," he said. "My mind was TEAM STATS NH Arizona 2 2 58 118 St. Louis 2 2 77 52 Seattle 2 2 75 77 San Francisco 0 4 52 103 TODAY St. Louis at Detroit, 1 p.m. Denver at Balti more, 1 p.m.

Phillipe Panico hit a 19-yard field goal off the right upright as time expired to give Yale a 23-20 victory over Dartmouth Saturday Chris Stanley gave the Bulldogs (3-1, 2-0 Ivy League) possession on the final drive after recovering a fumble on the Dartmouth 47. Stanley forced the fumble from Nick Schwieger after the Big Green receiver caught an 11-yard pass from Connor Kempe.

Yale then used four plays, including a 28-yard pass from Patrick Witt to Jordan Forney, to set up the game-winner. Panico, given a chance this week because of Alex Barnes' struggles, missed previously from 53 and 43 yards, dropping Yale to 0-for-6 on the season on field goals with three blocks. Panico had an extra point blocked in the second quarter. Witt finished with 238 yards and a touchdown on 28-for-37 passing, and Mordecai Cargill had 126 yards on 18 carries. With Cargill and Alex Thomas nicked up in the game, third-string running back Javi Sosa scored from 7 yards to give Yale a 20-13 lead on the final play of the third quarter.

Shawn Abuhoff 41-yard punt return tied it at 20 with 6:19 left. Schwieger had 128 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries for the Big Green (2-2, 0-2).
