2 a.m. Sports Update. By KATY WILLIAMS Domocrot spoftswrttor "Carlton Perry had 22 points?" That's what Eugene Harris, the disbelieving Rickards basketball coach, said of his senior forward when he looked over the team statistics. His players had topped Jefferson County 74-60 in the first game Wednesday in the four-team Tipoff Tournament at Lincoln. Calvin Procter's 20 points led the way for Lincoln, a 63-48 winner over Apalachicola in the second game.

Rickards and Lincoln will play in the final Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Jefferson County and Apalachicola will play in the consolation game at 7. Tickets are $2 for adults and $1 for students. Perry's 22 points as well as eight rebounds came as a surprise because he has practiced with the team just twice since Rickards' football practices wound up last week. That Rickards won its first game of the season was a surprise, too.

A team that graduated all of its starters from Its 18-11 squad of a year ago, Rickards led at halftime by only a basket, 31-29. Though the Redskins outscored Jefferson 20-10 in the third quarter, they also totaled 33 turnovers. "If my guys quit having mental lapses, we'd do better," Harris said. "Winning is nice, but we're going to have to work on the way we win." Against Jefferson, Walter Jordan was the Redskins' second-highest scorer with 16 points. Teammates Walter Todd had 10, and Eric Ash and James Thomas each had eight For Jefferson, Shawn Starling had 13 points and Sam Jones, 11.

For Lincoln, which moved from a 32-11 halftime lead, John Jordan added 16 points. Apalachicola sophomore Demetrius Jones was his team's highest scorer with 20 points. 1. E.Kentucky 10-0-0 SO 2. Louisiana Tech 9-2-0 76 3.
