O'Brien, professor of meteorology and oceanography, was installed as an AGU fellow at the meeting and was appointed chairman pf the National Academy of Sciences committee on the Ocean's Role in Global Change. Luther, O'Brien and David M. Legler, research assistant in meteorology, published a paper, "Verification of a Model of the Arabian Sea," in the Journal of Geophysical Research-Oceans.
