Page Two Seniors Present Gift to Carroll Graduating seniors of Carroll col- ege today presented their alma nater with a $100 bond earmarked altar furnishings in the proposed memorial chapel. During the annual senior chapel service in the Presbyterian church at 11 a. m. the student body witnessed presentation of the class gift fay Class President Don Kluge, and heard Dr. Jacob Van Tuinen, professor of philosophy at the college, deliver the A A A I A A A WIS.

Thursday, May 29, 1947 address. Unanimously chosen by the graduates to be the speaker, Van nen told students that the age of atomic science has brought modern man to the realization he "should repossess his soul 'for what shall it profit a man if he gain the Treasured Memories mokt every day a whole world and lose his own soul 1 I Although science gives man an inadequate, jig-saw-puzzle conception of things and especially of man himself, scijence has provided man with knowledge and knowledge is power, the Carroll professor said. "An understanding of the mechanisms of nature, together with a certain amount of human ingenuity, enables us to turn these mechanisms to our use in the form of engines and wings and can-openers and serums. Man added to his power. Each new form of mastery cast up a new responsibility to distract bis soul.

himself, 'What power, not only over nature's processes, but over men'." So he studied some of the mtfch-; anisms of human behavior and invented the appeal to mass prejudice and ignorance and venality, the reiteration of a lie, and all the devices of espionage and terror. And where has it got him? Into a panic and a frenzy. And in a panic man does foolish, senseless things." Dr. Nelson Vance Russell accepted the class gift for the college and asked the members of the group to remember their college after they leave its halls. Then, he said to I need is more I A A Wt provide services of mem- morable beauty and reverence for families of every religious belief, without prejudice or preference, at a price each can afford.
