Jenna Carlesso State OKs $3M For Bridge EAST HARTFORD A project to repair a railroad bridge between Hartford and East Hartford was recently promised $3 million in funds from the state. State Sen. Gary LeBeau, who advocated for repairs to the bridge, said the money is part of a large infrastructure improvement bonding package passed by the legislature.

The bridge is owned by Connecticut Southern Railroad. In a statement released last week, LeBeau said bridge repairs would be crucial for businesses that depend on the rail lines that head into East Hartford, Manchester and South Windsor. The railroad bridge, a five-span truss structure that was built around 1873, is just upstream from the Bulkeley Bridge over the Connecticut River. Connecticut Southern Railroad had asked for state assistance in repairing the bridge, LeBeau said. After the state's $3 million contribution, the bridge owner plans to spend $1 million on repairs, bringing the project's total cost to $4 million.
