It was at this point that Mike Staniak fouled out, and his ab- sence slowed down the Zephyrs attack. The fourth quarter was fairly close as Beisenstein hit on almost every shot he took, but Scheinoha found the range for the Cadets, sinking two buckets and four free throws to keep them out of reach. St.

Mary, which had played at a fast pace all the way in an effort to catch up, seemed to tire in the last three minutes, and Premontre pulled away. Kim Vanderhyden fouled out at this point which was one more tough blow for the Zephyrs to absorb. The final horn found the Premontre Cadets on top with a 73 to 62 victory. St. Mary hit on 53 per cent of its free throws, but was off on its shots from the floor, hitting less than 2D per cent.

Premontre, on the other hand, was sharp on the free throw line, sinking 77 per cent of their gift tosses, and notching slightly better than 40 per cent from the floor. This, plus the fact that they turned in a strong rebounding game that seldom gave the Zephyrs a second chance on their shots, spelled the difference. The Zephyrs will travel to Fond to Lac to face St. Mary Springs next Saturday night in an effort to break their five game losing streak. The Zephyrs stayed within striking range until the last three minutes when the Cadets put the game out of reach with a final burst of points.

The St. Mary quint started slow and were chasing the Cadets for the rest of the game, but could not quite catch up. Skip Beisenstein had a great night for the Zephyrs as he drilled in 36 points on 15 buckets and six free throws. However, the Cadets controlled the rebounds and that was the story of the game. Mike Staniak played a fine game for St.

Mary, collecting 14 markers before he fouled out in the third quarter. Mike Feller was high man for Premontre with 13 points, while Bob Dupont, Tom Schober and Don Scheinoha each had 12 counters. Schober and Scheinoha also played a great rebounding game for the Cadets. Premontre jumped off to an early lead as Dupont, Ferry and Schober hit the nets, to put the visitors from Green Bay in front. St.

Mary suffered an ice cold first quarter. The game was four minutes old before Mike Staniak put the Zephyrs on the scoreboard with two free throws. Another minute passed before Beisenstein hit his first two pointer of the game, to break a drought of basketless ball for St. Mary. The first quarter ended with Premontre ahead by a 16 to 11 margin.

The Cadets started fast in the second quarter, and pulled away to a 7 point edge. Beisenstein then hit a hot streak and pulled the Zephyrs to within one point of Premontre. Bob Dupont hit a couple baskets for the visitors, and the half ended with St. Mary trailing, 26 to 31. Tom Schober put the Cadets further in front as the second half started with three quick buckets.

Strictly amazing and strictly big league, the Harlem Magicians this season takes a record of 628 victories without a loss over the 1962-63 campaign into the nation's most important basketball arenas. After seeing these fellows in action many a spectator will leave the gym with the feeling he can't believe what he saw.

The defense was equally superb. Boston quarterback Babe Parilli hit on 14 of 29 passes for 189 yards, but he and Tom Yewcic were thrown for 42 yards attempting to pass. This factor allowed the Patriots only two serious offensive drives, one for a touchdown and one for a field goal. Boston halfback Ron Burton perhaps summed up the game best.

"It was one of the best games we played all year," he said, but his team lost by 41 points. Center Team Loses 81-11 To Sheboygan MENASHA A balanced scoring attack that saw five players score in the double figures enabled the Sheboygan Center team to overcome the Fox Valley Center team 81-71 in a University of Wisconsin Extension League game played Saturday at the Menasha gym. Mark VandeHey and Marty Kapp led the losing Trotters with 23 and 22 points respectively, but those two alone could not equal the Sheboygan team's balance. The host Fox Valley team made a grent comeback attempt after trailing in the game by a 72-45, but the closest the Trotters could get was nine points at 79-70 with only a few seconds left in the game. Sheboygan led at the halfway point by a 42-30 score and increased their lead early in the second half until the Trotters started their comeback.

Jerry Rammer led the winners with 18 points. Sheboygan (81) Fox Valley (71) yards to set up San Diego's first touchdown and 67 yards to score the second before Lowe dashed 58 yards around right end to give San Diego an insurmountable 21-7 lead in the first quarter. Norton, Alworth Score Rote dominated the second and third quarters, throwing 14 and 48-yard scoring passes to Don Norton and Lance Alworth respectively. Hadl took over in the final stanza with a 25-yard touchdown toss to Lincoln and a one-yard scoring plunge. The Boston defense, which had allowed the opposition an average of 79 yards a game on the ground all year, was turned in and out by San Diego for 318 yards rushing and an overall 610 yards an average of 10.2 yards a play.

Coaches Sid Gillman of San Diego and Mike Holovak of Boston termed the win a well-deserved effort by the Chargers, but amazingly none of the Charger scores came on breaks. Boston did not fumble and had two passes intercepted, neither of which affected the scoring. Lincoln, despite playing only slightly more than half the game, ran for 206 yards, a club record and a championship game record. Near Faultless Play Rote, a veteran of 15 years, was called by Gillman "the greatest quarterback to ever take a snap from center." His play-calling and faking were almost faultless as was Gillman's plan to fake the end sweep to stop Boston's blitz and set up traps through tackle. Birnamwood hit for 34 markers in the final quarter, as the Macs used their entire bench and eased up a bit.

The Macs were led by Jim Meyer who kept the nets swinging as he swished in 38 points. Jim Rueckl pumped in 24 for runnerup honors, and Pete Trei-ber added 16. St. Therese had been undefeated, but could not match the shooting and rebounding of a determined squad from St. John. St. Therese led by a 15 to 9 count at the end of the first quarter, but St.

John's rally put the local team in front at the half by a 23 to 22 margin. The second half saw St. Therese put on a comeback of its own and they led 40 to 35 in the third quarter. Once more St. John was equal to the occasion and wrapped up the game, 58 to 52.

lUPD-The San Diego Chargers reigned today as champions of the American Football League. The Chargers won the title Sunday by smashing the Boston Patriots 51-10 in the annual championship game between the Eastern and Western Division leaders. The Patriots entered the game boasting the league's finest defense, but the running of Keith Lincoln and Paul Lowe, and the passing of Tobin Rote and John Hadl sent Boston back to the drawing boards to prepare for next season. Lincoln, voted the game's most valuable player, ran 56 Zephyr JVs Trip Premontre MENASHA The St. Mary JV's were winners over Premontre by a 44 to 39 score Saturday night at the Menasha High gym.

The game was close most of the way, with the teams exchanging the lead during the first three quarters of play. The Zephyrs outlasted the Cadets in the last period and came away the victors. The first half saw both squads play a deliberate, set play pattern. The lead changed hands, as either team was able to build up a point margin. St.

Mary left the floor at half time with a slim two point lead, 19 to 17. Premontre opened fast in the second half and pulled away to a four point lead. The Zephyrs did not panic but played a steady game. Dick Shukoski and Dave Meier drilled in alternate buckets, as they rallied and went ahead. The Cadets were trailing by a 30 to 23 margin count when the third quarter ended.

St. Mary increased their lead to 10 points midway in the final stanza, but Premontre would not give up. With Pat Riopella and Jim Cornette hitting for the visitors, they cut the lead to three points with just over a minute to play.
