One of them, Granby's Green Acres (C.B.S., 9:30 p. appears to have been hatched from The Egg And with just a bit of Mr. Blandings and his dream house thrown in for good measure. The other one, Too Many Cooks (C.B.S., 8 p. bears a striking resemblance to Cheaper by the Dozen, the switch in this case being that the Cook family has only, 10 instead of 12 children.

Mr. Granby of the green acres Is a middle-aged bank teller who yields to a lifelong urge to till the soil. Granby, who is already saddled with a rather dimwitted wife and a perpetually exasperated daughter, adcfc a farm to his other burdens. He knows nothing about farming and therein lay the laughs. Or that's where the laughs are supposed to lay.

Maybe they're spending the summer in the city. THE DIALOGUE is cast on a level I thought had gone out with Maek Sennett. Here are a couple of samples: "If I took a seed a tiny white seed covered it with earth and watered it occasionally, what would I have?" "A dirty little white seed." (To the storekeeper) "Do you earry windowboxes." "Certainly, if they're not too heavy." "John, wake up. The rooster is crowing." "Well, turn it off." As for the plot, well Mr. Granby plants 180 acres of potatoes.

The potato market goes to pot. He digs up the potatoes and plants wheat. Wheat goes to pot. He digs up the wheat and so on. Don't ask me how you dig up 180 acres of wheat seed.

I left the farm country a long time ago and haven't been back. Maybe they've Invented a machine to do it since I left. When he isn't planting and un- planting wheat, Mr. Granby is being outwitted by the country yokels or derided by his hired man, Eb, or nagged by his wife and daughter to move back to the eity. I don't know what C.B.S.

The parents in radio comedies are always just a little dumber than their youngest child. It used to be that the wife was a paragon of wisdom, kindliness, energy and thrift. Now, it seems to me, the kids are gradually taking over.

Come to think of it, the popularity of children in radio comedy is fairly recent. Domestic comedy used to be typified by Burns and Allen, who didn't have any children underfoot. Then Ozzie and Harriet Nelson and their two offspring came along. Since then, children of all ages have been crawling around the networks. Been a great period fo child actors.

Firemen Called To Oust Pigeon From Chimney City firemen got the bird Sunday. In one of the department's many extra-curricular functions, firemen smoked a feathered friend from a chimney at the home of Charles A. Huddleston, 826 Chester where its struggles were creating a disturbance. Firemen, who received the "alarm" at 10:40 p. said it was a pigeon, not a chimney swallow.

The department was summoned earlier, at 5:46 p. to extinguish a minor auto fire at Mulberry St. and Pennsylvania Ave. A defective carburetor was blamed. The auto was reported owned by Fred Humphrey.
