Northeast is seeking programs, scorecards, photographs, pennants maybe even baseball trading cards and uniforms of Hartford's many old boys of summer: starting with the Hartford Dark Blues, one of the original National League teams in the 1870s, to the city's last minor league club, the Hartford Chiefs, who left after the 1952 season. Perhaps, someone even has a grandstand seat or two from the old Bulkeley Stadium. Northeast Magazine, of course, will handle all items with the utmost care, and return them promptly. Anyone who might have any Hartford professional baseball memorabilia or who knows someone who does, should call Mike Gray at Northeast Magazine at 241-3700 or 1-800-524-4242. The Easter Seal Society of Connecticut will be beneficiary of $25 for each goal scored by the Connecticut Valley Lacrosse Club at its home games this season.

The United Bank of Hartford and the North American Holding Corp. of East Hartford are financial backers of the venture. Contributions also will be made for each CVLC goal during its exhibition tour in Australia in June. Ray Leonard, 6:30 p.m., HBO Fla. "If you can steal a base, beat out a chopper or keep out of a double play, it will help your team. And if you can cut down balls in the gap, you can really help your pitchers." Was this a Red Sox player talking, or a member of another past Sox team of a different color, named the "Go-Go" Sox. Those 1959 Chicago White Sox were renowned for their speed and ability to generate runs with few hits. This year's New Britain club may possess those same skills.

In addition to Anderson, New Britain has some other swift men from Winter Haven. Outfielder Greg Lolzar stole 42 bases, second baseman Angel Gonzalez stole 30 and shortstop Chris Moritz stole 21. Anderson, 23, the team's reigning stolen base champion, also batted .318, hit 12 homers and drove in 87 runs. New Britain Manager Dave Holt said Anderson's best talent is his defense. "Brady is right there with Ellis Burks (center fielder at Triple-A Pawtucket, R.I.," Holt said.

"He's capable of playing defensively in the majors today." But Anderson probably won't get to Boston this year to play in Fenway Park, better suited to home runs than stolen bases, because he needs more work to be a consistent hitter. "Being a good defensive player has come naturally, so I spend more time on my hitting," said Anderson, whose palms have layers of calluses BOXING Hearns postures for Sugar Ray bout The manager for World Boxing Council light-heavyweight champion Thomas Hearns says negotiations are under way for a Hearns' rematch with Sugar Ray Leonard in September. According to Hearns' manager, Emanuel Steward, Hearns and Leonard would be guaranteed $15 million each for the bout. By MICHAEL ARACE Courant Staff Writer It's Thursday afternoon, and Dave Holt, the new manager of the Double-A New Britain Red Sox, has justarrived at his new summer home. Holt stands in front of the Beehive Field clubhouse, catching a few peeks of the Central Connecticut-University of Maine game in front of him, and answers questions about himself, talking about his baseball priorities. "This game can bring you to your knees awful quick," said Holt, whose Britsox open the season tonight at 7 p.m. against the Albany Yankees at Beehive Field. "I've seen guys have the greatest game in the world one day, and play the worst game in the world the next," Holt said.

"No matter how good or bad you did the day before, you still have to go out the next dayland begin all over again. "The main thing you want a professional baseball player to learn is consistency, and that's what I try to teach," Holt said. "Professional baseball is full of heroes one day, and goats the next. If you learn to be consistent emotionally, you have a better chance to succeed." That is the regimented side of Holt's baseball life, ahdliis demeanor matches this side. He's a blue-eyed, 5-foot-10, 175-pound former minor league catcher-first baseman who speaks softly, but in a steady, even tone, measuring each word before it leaves his mouth.

1 Holt seems well, consistent. He is not, however, one-dimensional. It's Thursday night at the New Britain Elks Club. ThVdinner portion of Welcome Red Sox Night finishes: with vanilla ice cream, and Holt steps to the podium in front of 150 people to introduce his team. He begins, "I'm glad to see there's still some people left in New England.

Last week, I thought they were all down in Florida. Matter of fact, I saw a bumper sticker in Winter Haven that said, 'Last one out "of New England, please turn out the Laughter ensues. Then another crack by Holt, and niore laughter. This man is funny. 1'Kiddingly, I'd say I'm just the opposite of 1985 New Britain manager and current Pawtucket skip-perl Ed Nottle," Holt said earlier.

"Ed is outgoing, talkative; he likes to have a good time with his players. I'm more laid back, I guess." Holt has worked the fall instructional league with Nottle, and has learned from him. Holt, 29, has crammed a whole lot of learning into the last few years. Holt began as a player-coach for Manager Rac Slider's 1983 Eastern League champion Britsox, a team featuring Roger Clemens, Al Nipper, Marc Sullivan and Steve Lyons. A year later, at the tender age of 26, Holt was managing the Class A Winter Haven Red Sox in the Florida State League.

"It was a surprise getting the Winter Haven job," Holt said. "I knew I wanted to get into managing sometime. I guess I was just in the right place at the right time." Winter Haven finished 70-74 his first year, then 71-68. In 1986, Holt's team improved to 80-76, winning the Central Division title by 26 games. In the 12-team league, Winter Haven was first with a .276 batting JULY 12 3 4 WILL WILL WILL WILL 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 WILL WILL READ READ READ READ HAR 12 13 14 15 16 17 18(2) HAR HAR VT VT READ READ 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 READ READ PITT PITT WILL WILL WILL 26 27 28 29 30 31 PITT PITT ALB ALB PITT PITT AUGUST 1 PITT 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 PITT ALB ALB VT VT G.F.

If you learn to be consistent emotionally, you have a better chance to succeed. Dave Holt average, 58 home runs and 54 triples, second with 240 stolen bases and third with a 3.25 ERA. Now, still tender at 29, Holt is in Double-A.

"No question, this is a good spot for me to be in," Holt said. "I have no timetable on anything, I'm just trying to get these guys to do the best they can. That's my job, no matter what level. The timetable will take care of itself anyway, as long as I keep doing my job." Which brings us back to the two sides of Dave Holt: the consistent, and the unexpectedly funny. "I kid about Ed Nottle a lot," Holt said, "but he gets a lot out of his players.

There comes a time to get down and go to work, and he recognizes that. Maybe some of that has rubbed off on me: combine an easy atmosphere with a work ethic and consistency.
