All but two of the bondsmen had signed the note to day which is to be deposited in the banks to make good Treasurer Ash's deficit. At last ac counts the insurance policy which is to secure the bondsmen had not ar rived from Chicago.

In private conversation to-day one of the bondsmen admitted that some of his companions are not only unwilling to remain on the bond of Mr. Ash atiy longer, but also to sign their name to the bond of any person for the position. There are others also who aw willing to be ou the bond of some efficient man but are unwilling become responsible for Mr. Ash during the collection of taxes. It was intimated that a new man will in all probability be given the place, and that the interest Ash's bondsmen now have in the matter, is to sec the deficit settled up ami themselves secured.

If this is done it is not likely that they will trouble -themselves about a successor or nn assistant. There are at present a number of candidates for the position, among the names mentioned beinir that of I'en Edgarton. 1). D. Whittle', Wm.

There was a strange presentiment in connection with the death of ex-Congressman Aldrich at Fond du Lac. A few minutes after Mr. Aldrich left the office of his partner the latter felt a strange impulse and going out discovered Mr. Aldrich unconscious having fallen in an attack of apoplexy, which a few hours later, was followed by death.

The mystery surrounding the death of Prof. Paul Broder of Beloit is not yet unraveled. A genuine surprise connected with the recent trial has just been given in the alleged arrest of a lady, Mrs. Arthur aldrow at Syracuse, N. charged with the murder of Prof.

Broder in pushing him down stairs. It will be remembered that Prof. Broder met his death about four years ago and that it was generally supposed that he died from the effects of injuries sustained from falling down stairs while in a drunken condition. After a lapse of four years his remains were exhumed and the coroner's inquest gave the verdict that Mr. Broder came to his death by violence at the hands of unknown parties.
