As the muscles strengthen, and as you keep increasing the time you stand up straight, good posture will become easier. I would by all means consult an orthopedist, however, to make sure that no defect of the spine is at fault.

He could give you more explicit directions on exercises that will help you. Diverticulosis is a bulge in the digestive tract. To become more familiar with the subject, write to The Democrat for my booklet, "Don't Let Diverticulosis Throw Yon." enclosing a long, 1 a d-dressed, stamped envelope and 20 cents in coin to cover cost of printing and handling. Dr. Molner welcomes all reader mail, but regrets that due to the tremendous volume received daily, he is unable to answer individual letters.

Readers' questions are incorporated in his column whenever possible. ii.ii.ip Winnie m. i i bought a brace but my shoulders get so sore I can't wear it. Molner: I wonder if you would print how cataracts are removed from the eyes. I had them on both eyes and had them removed in 1963. It was very successful. I can read, sew and see everything, and am very happy about it. I was totally blind in one eye and partially in the other, and both cataracts were removed within two weeks.

My neighbor and I were having a discussion. One of her friends was going to have it done and a friend said her doctor told her that they take the eyes out and operate and sew them back in. I was going to tell them how I thought it was done when another neighbor said yes, they did it to her eyes, so I didn't say anything. Please explain it. M.C.

Heaven knows how these ridiculous notions get started. The eyes stay exactly where they always have been. A "cataract" is the lens portion, in the pupil of the eye, which has become cloudy and thus will not transmit light. The operation to remove these cataracts, or lenses, goes back at least as far as the Persians several thousand years ago. It was then an unpleasant operation because they had only crude instruments and no anesthetics, but at least they were succeeding in letting a little more light into the eyes, and afforded some semblance of vision.

Today anesthesia prevents pain, and delicate instruments make possible great precision. Technically, operations vary a bit; in some cases they are purely surgical; in others, medical treatment may be used to loosen the lens capsule first, and then it is removed surgically. Afterwards special glasses are fitted to compensate for the missing lens. More recently contact lenses have been developed for this purpose and are very successful. The eye is not removed.

It doesn't have to be. Drar Dr. Molner: I am 18 and getting hunchbacked. I FRIDAYNIGHT. i 7 i fl I "Mr.
