SOUTHERN ELECTRIC CO. 12J N. Monroe St. Ph. 370 Brine Your Radio and Save Service Charge SERIAL STORY BY EDWIN RUTT POST-VIEW CHAPTER XIII "HET SAXON looked worried a moment longer, then his countenance cleared.

"Old Man Chan-Bing's a joke," he said. "So long, Logan. Tell Hildy I'll be there, even if the scheme is bughouse. And so long to you, Maloney." He grinned sardonically. "Drop to again sometime." 1 The moment they were in the Ford, Mahoney delivered himself.

I don't like that guy," he said emphatically. "Why not?" said Jonah. Mahoney brooded. "Calling me Maloney. I'd like to take a poke at, him." "WelL you passed up a swell chance.

But Maloney or Mahoneyj it all sounds like much of nothing to me." "Ow," exclaimed Mahoney as if stung, and he lapsed into injured Bile nee. Jonah Logan did not know it, but mention of the Tribe Maloney, in anything save the most uncomplimentary terms, was to Mahoney like extolling the virtues of the Soviet Union to Adolf Hitler. In his youth in the wilds of Brooklyn, the tough boy of the neighborhood was one Terence Terence Maloney had been a vear older than Mahoney and, therefore, ineligible for a sock in the puss. Realizing this, Terence Maloney had put in the golden hours shying clods and brickbats at Mahoney and otherwise, by acts of violence, making the early Mahoney existence miserable. As a consequence, Mahoney had conceived an abiding hatred for anything even remotely connected With Maloneys.

"Personally." said Jonah now, "Saxon struck me as being a bit on the well, sophisticated side tor a mrl like Hildy." "I wouldn't know about that," Mahoney said. "But I'd sure like to get even with him." "What for? Hedidn't do anything to you." "He was ribbin me," said Ma honey aaerievedly. "Thin-skinned, these Celts," remarked Jonah and drove on, serenely unaware that inside the brachycephaiic head of Mr. Mahoney an idea was being born, lowly and painfully, as were all Mahoney ideas. Late that afternoon Jonah kept his tryst with Hildy at the Taj Mahal.

He entered Wildover, ghosted from bush to bush, and arrived safely at the rendezvous. Hildy was on deck. But she seemed listless. "Hiya, Dal." said Jonah, in tprightly fashion. "I've ssen your boy friend and it's all set The THE TERRIBLE EYE FOR SALE 3 BEDROOM house, 2 baths, section.

Before anyone can export anything, permit must be obtained; from the Board of Economic Warfare, and navicerts Issued to permit loading. Another field of operations where distinterest in dollars has been most apparent is North Africa. It is reported obvious in event of lowest class workmen. Offer them silver and they'll keep on loafing. Offer them a cigafet, and they'll work their hsads off.

Board of Economic Warfare people will argue that just as important as the military aspects of the North African occupation were the economic factors the shutting off from the axi3 of all kinds of supplies which they need in the worst possible way iron ores, fruits, vegetable oils, wheat, wool. The axis had bled North Africa white, put it in rags. Everything that was loose was exported and nothing was sent in for exchange. African shops had nothing to sell, so what good was money to the natives? The answer to that was in part a deal whereby a Brazilian surplus of cheap cotton cloth was rushed to North Africa to stock up the bazaars. It was far more valuable than money could ever be, to get trade moving again, to start up the country's economy.

Daily Democrat. In Hollywood Continued from page four new. He'll make his inging dsbut for a sequence in the film version of "Jane Eyre." He's taking vocal lessons from a 20th Century-Fox studio coach for the scene. INCOME TAX Continued from page four exchanged for property -of a like kind, the transaction, within certain definite limitations, is considered as giving rise neither to gain nor to loss, and accordingly is nontaxable. The general provision regarding nontaxable exchanges is that the property exchanged must have been held for productive use in trade or business or for in vestment, and exchanged solely for property of a like kind to be held either for productive use in trade or business or for investment.

The simplest example of such an exchange would be a swap of work horses. It sometimes happens that a taxpayer has an involuntary gain, as when property is sold under condemnation, or is destroyed or stolen, with the receipt of insurance. If the proceeds of involuntary conversion are "forthwith in good faith Invested in property which is similar or related in service or use to the property converted," no gain shall be recognized. If, however, any part of the money received is not so reinvested, the gain in excess of the amount not reinvested would be taxable. The taxpayer must be able to prove that the money received was the money actually reinvested in such other property.

Moreover, certain restrictions are imposed on the kind of property in which reinvestment may be made. For instance, an investment in improved real estate of the proceeds from forced sale of unimproved real estate, would not be considered as an investment in property "similar or related in service or use." -and any gain would be taxable. 2315 jer I meanr Mr. baxon wui make a perfect three-point landing in these preserves come Saturday night." "Oh," said Hildy, and her tone was preoccupied. "Thanks, Jonah." Jonah bunked. He had expected a touch more enthusiasm. "This Saxon," he said, going into detail, "was a little well, hesitant at first.

But I put the case strongly." A girl in love, informed that her swain had might have been expected to prick up her ears. Hildy's ears never even twitched. "Oh, well, that's all right then," she said. "Hildy," said Jonah, puzzled, "I sense, in your attitude, an undercurrent distraction." She was silent a moment "I guess you must," she said at last. "We've had trouble here today, Jonah.

And now the most terrible thing is about to happen. At sundown tonight, unless we get a miracle, Uncle Cal is going to com mit suicide." Jonah started. "Uncle Cal? You mean the goofy little bird with the Henry Morgenthau touch?" "Yes. He's going to cut his throat The last time I saw him he was on his way upstairs to hone his razor." "But good Lord," Jonah exclaimed, "what's brought this on?" "It's that horse of his," Hildy said. "Bucephalus.

We had a little fire here today. Nothing very serious. One of the summerhouses burned down, that's all. But it did create quite a lot of confusion. And, during the excitement, Bucephalus completely i a p-peared." "PORWAED, Mahoney," said Jonah Logan.

Mahoney, laden with photographic impedimenta, practically fell out of the Ford. "Gee, Chief, have I got to climb that tree with all this stuff again?" "Silence! Stop You climb no trees, Mahoney. We enter like Nero, through a breach in the wall." Mr. Logan lightly and with joie de vivre. Actually he felt anything but light Once be fore at wildover, he had com pared himself to Sidney Carton, And now, about to make every thing lovely for Hudegarde Chan ning and Gbester Saxon, his mood was Carton-ish the extreme.

"Well, Chief," said Mahoney, "I'm waitin." Jonah strode somberly to the little door in the wall, the key to which he had thoughtfully ac quired from Hildy Channing. In another minute th.ey were sup ping quietly toward the Taj Mahal. (SEAL) Clerk Circuit Court Leon County. Florida By H. B.
